In hindsight I'm not sure that high speed timelapse is the best way to show the process for longer paintings like this. it might be more interesting in the future to record specific points in the painting process, rather than trying to crush down several tens of hours of footage into four still quite long videos.
As for the actual painting, I found myself using the pencil tool quite a lot for fine detail towards the end, especially for all the branches and foliage in the background. The reason for this is that the pencil tool retains a sharp edge even when working at a very small scale, whereas brushes tend to get sort of fuzzy when you scale them down too far.
