How to Learn About Yourself, and Others

I want to be clear that I love our cats, and would never do anything to harm either of them. I will, however, admit that if you had asked me the split second after I discovered that one of them had managed to claw a hole in my best jacket, I might have been tempted to answer differently.

I wonder if part of the reason we love our pets is that they make it difficult sometimes. They are just poorly behaved enough, just needy enough, just selfish enough that we find it adorable . . . after we’ve cooled down. It’s like resistance training. Our bond grows stronger because it’s regularly pushed to just shy of the breaking point, then heals.

Something to think about the next time anyone, or anything you love makes you momentarily unhappy, whether it’s a pet, a person, or Star Wars.

"Don't change the subject" "I can also like things that are dumb" is a putdown of the decade, and 2020s are QUITE a decade. You win. #poorRik

Glad you liked it!

Star Wars pushed me past the ability to heal, but mercifully did so early enough (episode I) that I dodged a lot of suffering. Second panel here absolutely killed me.
