How to Understand Another Person's Point of View

Fifty-four days in a row, over 110 degrees! People were going into the emergency rooms with severe burns from falling in parking lots and touching the pavement.

Humans were not meant to live in Phoenix.

Peggy Hill knew it!

Michael Bluth knew it!

And I know it!

So, you might be thinking, “If you don’t like it, why don’t you move.”

We did. You may remember me whining about the difficulty of moving back in April. That’s what that was. We sold off a bunch of our belongings, packed up what remained, and moved . . . to Portugal. I expect the comic to remain unchanged, but here in my comments you can expect to read the occasional mention of what it’s like being a former farm-boy from Washington living in Europe.

So far, the biggest negative (aside from distance from friends and family) is that when I saw Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, it still had the original English soundtrack, but whenever someone spoke German, the subtitles were in Portuguese. That’s okay though. They were Nazis in an Indiana Jones movie. I think I got the gist. The odds that they were talking about what a great guy Jones was, and how they wanted to bake him a cake, seem low.

That being said, I’ve always tried to position my Patreon as a straightforward business proposition. I offer a free service, with an inexpensive paid upgrade available. If that upgrade feels worth it to you, I’m grateful for your business. And if I have too few paying customers for it to be worthwhile, well, that's not your fault.

I do understand, though, that there are people who see Patreon more as a charity. There’s a chance that some of you look at it that way, are reading this, and don’t feel like sending money to some guy who gets to live in Portugal. If that’s you, please know that I get it, and feel free to cancel your patronage with no hard feelings on my part.

If you have any questions, please put them in the comments. I do read all of them.

Thanks (Obrigado),

Scott Meyer

Also, don’t forget that the guys from Viva La Dirt League get to live in New Zealand, possibly the most beautiful place on Earth, and they make something like $50,000 a month from Patreon. So don’t sweat it.

I think the biggest perk of Patreon, other than being part of this fun mini-cluster of Meyernerds, is that we vote with our dollars to keep the comic strip up. If you’re like me, you sometimes have to weigh what you spend your time on… a comic a week or another novel every 2 years? Hopefully our meager 24 bits a month help tip the scales toward Rocket Hat’s next silent movie.

A belated welcome to Europe from the middle of it (Hungary)!
