How to Express Your Positive Vision for the Future of Humanity

Short commentary today. I like to keep my vision for the future more positive, and less apocalyptically bleak.

I got the idea for this comic when the real Ric complained that he made a social media post about the rise of AI in creative fields, and few of his friends/followers liked it. I told him that the post in question literally ended with the suggestion that anyone who wants to survive should get good at mining lithium by hand.

Asking people to “like” that is a tad ambitious.

When created the “Smarter than a Monkey, Cheaper than a robot” shirt, (Still available, BTW!) I was making a joke about my own low self esteem. Now, it’s literally the career sweet spot we all need to aim for.

ChatGPT has this thing where it speaks with absolute certainty about things that don't exist and/or are false. I once asked it to create a list (random, but true) of the best collaborations with Arthur Baker. It listed Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. I asked, "in what capacity did Bob Dylan collaborate with Arthur Baker?" and it replied "upon further examination, they did not work together, and I apologise." So it knows it's spouting bullnumbertwo, yet does it anyway. And then people ask it for health advice.

I liked it anyway, because it's true.

When I took an AI class as a computer science student in grad school, I lost all fear that AI would ever replace humans. ChatGPT seemed poised to prove me wrong, but I felt completely vindicated after watching this Legal Eagle video about a couple of lawyers who thought it would be OK to let ChatGPT write a motion that they filed to dismiss a case: https://youtu.be/oqSYljRYDEM Unfortunately for them, ChatGPT decided to cite a bunch of fictional decisions as well as some decisions which did not support the claims they were making. The judge in the case was not amused.
