How to Find Humor in a Terrible Situation

Yes, an elderly relative of mine fell down some stairs. (He is fine.)

Yes, it was at his ophthalmologist’s office. (He is being treated for macular degeneration.)

Yes, he blames the ophthalmologist, who he feels has no business having stairs in the first place, for the reason mentioned in the comic.

Yes, the stairwell wound around the shaft of an elevator that was right next to the stairs.

Yes, he did tell someone that he took the stairs because elevators are, “For the weak.” Later, (Probably after seeing the reaction that statement got) he told me he takes the stairs because the elevator’s buttons are too small.

Sometimes the comic seems to write itself.

My golly, for the photo op next time, hire Minnie Mouse to appear at her home .

The best ways to do any Disney anything is with kids who are in the sweet-spot age wise, or with no kids. With kids who are too young to enjoy it or old enough to be "too cool" is the WORST way to do it. Sorry you had that experience.

This reminds me of a Disney Cruise that I went on recently. My 79 year old mother organized it for her 50th wedding anniversary. My kids are fully grown, my sister's kids didn't want to come, and my brother's kids are aged 1 and 3, both too young to enjoy the majority of childrens' activities on board. She spent the entire trip complaining about how overpriced and inaccessible the rooms were. I would have been more sympathetic if it weren't for the fact that she's the one who insisted on a Disney Cruise just so that she could get a photo with Minnie Mouse. Maybe -- just maybe -- destination parties aren't the best idea if you can't even get on and off an airplane without wheelchair assistance.
