Having seen Verhoeven's Robocop and Total Recall, I do. Most of the kids who haven't, who didn't even know this was based on a core-scifi-author book, and who rented the movie because, yahh, CGI things blow up, however, DON'T. And then go on big rants about "Doogie Howser in a Nazi uniform?...That's just stupid!" I don't mean to lump Dillon in with those kids, but the same risk is at play--It's a mad movie, yes, but there's method to it.

2022-05-14 19:21:01 +0000 UTCIt's a strange movie, and gets wildly divided reactions on first viewing (half of the critics put on their worst list), since Robert Heinlein is famous among sci-fi authors for being ULTRA-rightwing to the point of fascist, and nobody except "Robocop" director Paul Verhoeven was crazy enough to do Heinlein's style straight out of the book. There are a lot of other ways a director could have adapted it, but this is unique..
