Hacksaw Ridge

Comments

So I came back to rewatch this thing and I have additional comment: You were pondering about why some Americans use double negatives like "didn't you say nothing" or "it didn't do no good" That IS prevalent down in the south-eastern regions, and West Virginia in addition to being southern, is also an Appalachian state. That's a series of mountains that run across the region with a unique cultural aspect. They have that accent there and their own manner of speaking (called a patois). (I'm pretty sure it's indiscriminate about race) It's not "southern" when you compare it to the accents common to other states like Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas... Louisiana has two or three local patois, which are cajun and creole and....that other one that I forgot... Yes, it's incorrect grammar stemming from lack of education....years and years and years ago. I'm not sure about the education aspect nowadays, but that area was and still is today one of the most poverty stricken regions* of the US. Think coal mining. When you watched the Hunger Games, District 12 is Appalachian state...er District? Bookwise it's referred to a 'region once called Appalachia". (no accents, but hey it's supposed to be set in the future...) and once patois is set, it's generally set no matter what your level of education is, it's just part of the speaking manner now.

The Japanese used a bolt action rifle made by Arisaka in Japan. by this stage of the war they were the Type 99 in 7.7Jap, which is basically a rimless version of the .303 british. The earlier versions were type 38. Their machine guns were made by Nambu, as were all their pistols.
