That's absolutely atrocious. Some artists use Patreon so that their art is uncompressed, not so that they GET compressed.

2025-02-27 11:44:41 +0000 UTCI think that's just because the app doesn't support WebP. Seems like they are using WebP if (1) the client supports it and (2) the size savings are significant enough.

2025-02-27 06:15:11 +0000 UTCYeah that's incredibly fucking stupid. Only thing I can think is to upload all the pics as attachments for people who don't have an image viewer that supports webp. If it's any consolation though, I checked and they are lossless webp files, so you're not getting overly compressed garbage at least. I get they're doing it since webp offers a significant file size reduction in most cases, but I don't think they considered the ramifications for a platform where people typically save things for later viewing.
