Early Vid: Trying Windows 95 Server Based Setup
Added 2024-06-06 13:54:09 +0000 UTCThis one was quite the slog... and not entirely successful. But pretty fun along the way and I learned a ton about setting up Windows 95 VMs and networking.
Video goes live tomorrow afternoon!

Very interesting video! You're prompting me to do similar. I think one of the key things that exploding cap (?) said in the video -- I watched it after and because of yours -- is that he include NetBEUI in his NT Server setup. As you said, TCP/IP was optional and not nearly as well supported in '95, especially the DOS network client used to pull the disk-less client up.

2024-06-13 01:15:34 +0000 UTCMore official and probably not helpful documentation from Microsoft: Win95 Traincast #7 (https://youtu.be/L23a_blRDD8&t=9898) spends about 40 minutes covering "thin client mode" starting at 2h45m.

2024-06-07 02:54:37 +0000 UTCMan, this takes me back! Back in 8th grade my buddy Jeremy and I made a 802.11b adhoc wireless network between our houses with custom made Cantennas.. which were directional antennas made from linksys wireless adapters and Pringles cans. The kicker was he lived over 3/4 of a mile across a tobacco field. It was awesome.

2024-06-06 18:32:52 +0000 UTCI'd guess that the NETSEUP wasn't on the OSR disks as they were released "for new PCs only" so network based installation would have been against the EULA. The upgrade disk would have been a full commercial release.

2024-06-06 17:14:31 +0000 UTCThanks, it's nice to hear that, especially after one like this haha. I'm sure with many more hours I'll get it... but this video was getting pretty long and I needed a break from it lol.

2024-06-06 16:14:30 +0000 UTCIs there any reason you're using 86box 3.0? 4.1 has been out for a while
