No! Worth watching?

Almost Cult Classics

Have you guys saw Dog Eat Dog (2016) starring Cage and directed by Paul Schader?

Trembling Colors

The idea of the pull-string doll really had me rolling.

I loved Punisher War Zone the only reason I feel it underperformed was it came out 5 months after The Dark Knight so comic book films couldn’t be in any way exaggerated/over the top after dark knight and look where we are now making a knock off taxi driver/king of comedy calling It JOKER, making knock off David Fincher films calling them THE BATMAN, knock off Sopranos calling it The Penguin c’mon I’ll take Batman 89, Punisher War Zone, Hellboy 2004 while not perfect films or adaptations AT LEAST THOSE THREE EMBRACED BEING BASED ON COMIC BOOKS NOT ASHAMED OF BEING BASED ON COMIC BOOKS like (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man Of Steel, JOKER, The Batman, and Penguin HBO Max show) who feel so ashamed that they are based off comic characters

I second Blues Brothers 2000 even though I don't think it fits the theme of the podcast. We just want to hear them give it the Marwen treatment.

Listening to this again I take note of Ryan posing his question about the definition of an "art film" and realize I just had a similar conversation with my daughter about it. She put on 2009s Where the Wild Things Are (that might be one?) and she asked why it was such a giant flop when I mentioned it. I told her it was probably because it was an art film when most people might have expected a kids movie. In this case it's distinction as an art film is because it was a movie about childhood rather than a movie for children, which it is anyway. As Roger Ebert used to say, a movie is not about what it is about but how it is about it and an "art film" is just more aware of that.

Watch Nothing Lasts Forever. Truly the quintessential Almost Cult Classic.

WAR ZONE would be great. Plus a good excuse to go down the insane rabbit hole of Doug Hutchison.

You guys should do a retrospective on the police academy movies

El bobos

Also Arnold Schwarzenegger during his peak. He also directed another film that is on my list of films to send to these two

JokersJuicyAss

Also I have sent you physical stuff, granted this time they're more so not directly film related, metal poster for Ryan because he's the one in three people who likes the Mondial, and a Binghamton Bearcats flag because Liebestraum was filmed in Binghamton, I figure this time you were more confused and didn't think they would relate to this show. Also go Bearcats

JokersJuicyAss

I like the older Herzog movies best, but I get the sense that his years of documentaries and this weird fascination with just zainy people who exist on the margins of society really informs his newer style. There was also a theme of like lizards or alligators and like karma with nature, where he uses a low-quality consumer camera to record "outtakes" with animals lurking around the actors? And just puts 'em in the finished movie? I feel like the ending too is kinda a karma thing, like he does bad stuff but has his own underlying morals where he gets rewarded by nature for saving the guy and putting away Xzibit? I'd say it's very similar to the Coen brothers Serious Man, and in-fact I'd say they're virtually the same movie in every way.

Maybe an idea for a future October project. I recently watched Tales From the Crypt season 1 and the amount of connections is insane. Zemeckis, Walter Hill, Richard Donner, Tom Holland. Bill Sadler, Lea Thompson, M. Emmet Walsh, Amanda Plummer. The list goes on. I had fun with it. I'm sure the series itself is considered a legitimate cult classic so for the patreon or a sidetracks, it might be a fun thing for you guys to check out. I'll be watching more of the series for sure.

How someone feels about Nicholas Cage is a good litmus test for their experience with movies.

July 22

JokersJuicyAss

I did not. When did you send it?

Uncle Buck and All of Me

Looking forward to his upcoming Salò commentary

I feel the same about Boardwalk Empire, really enjoyed most of the show besides the mega rushed last season. But I was always more interested in every single character's side stories and just had to begrudgingly trudge through anything centering on Nucky or his singsong Mick wife

Steven Trotter

But only one was filmed in Binghamton Go Bearcats

JokersJuicyAss

I've seen Liebestraum a couple times and remember it being very ho-hum, but having pretty cool visuals. I think there was like a TCM or somebody neo-noir night where they played that and like Spanish Prisoner and definitely House of Games and maybe Memento? I kinda get it mixed up with the movie B Monkey, which has a similar thing going on?

Thomas Bishop

Honestly you guys should do blue brothers 2000 for the pateron or Amazon women on the moon.

Luke Gordnier

You mean Behind the Green Door?

JokersJuicyAss

Also Gator might have the most badass opening you have seen in a while just the sea of Troopers searching the swamp paired with Jerry Reed's Gator https://youtu.be/dW5rDat8lgQ?si=IcrIRAotWyNsq3NR

JokersJuicyAss

Maximum Overdrive might work for a aftershow

JokersJuicyAss

If you want to do north, I can ship you my dvd copy that I bought, it is something.

Luke Gordnier

Thank you Joker. And that *could* be out by January/February. Ext year. Fingers crossed!

Andrew N Chilton

If that were true, I’d unfortunately have to buy the movie! Ahaha

Andrew N Chilton

Last Tango in Paris

Ryan Lancello

He did one for Uncle Buck

JokersJuicyAss

Wait Joe you didn't get Speedo the doc I sent you a while back

JokersJuicyAss

May I ask what are the other two commentaries you did Joe? I will say - I can’t wait to upgrade my Summer Rental now.

Andrew N Chilton

I love Nosferatu but it was also the first Herzog I saw and I'm a massive Popol Vuh fan. I'm interested to see how Egger's take turns out in a couple of months

Tom Goodwin

This might surprise you but I sent Liebestraum as for why, it was filmed in the city I use to live near Binghamton New York

JokersJuicyAss

By the way Gator is the sequel to White Lightning and Ryan you're going to love Jerry Reed in Gator

JokersJuicyAss

North is like one of the very few post 1950s movies with unironic Blackface in it

JokersJuicyAss

Oh Dingus got this one while it's hot out of the oven

JokersJuicyAss

Hope you guys still do Punisher War Zone (2008) someday
