Early Access - Watching Every Adam Sandler Movie

Hey everyone, here's a special unplanned episode that we decided to put together. For some insane reason, I ended up watching a whopping 16 Adam Sandler movies this past month (all Happy Madison flicks). Ryan joins me for a special discussion as I rank them from worst to best. Ryan also watched Uncut Gems for the first time and we talk about that as well.

I will be continuing my pilgrimage and finish the remaining Sandler films next month so stay tuned for that. Let us know if you'd like to see more ranking episodes like this and be sure to tell us your favorite Sandler movies in the comments!

A lot memories while listening to this one. I remember seeing Billy Madison in the theater for a friend’s birthday party, and those (not-safe-for-SNL) comedy albums are somewhat legendary. The Wedding Singer is hands-down my favorite, but I’m realizing that I haven’t seen MOST Sandler-starring vehicles. Airheads deserves its own episode. I was definitely going to recommend it at some point. I don’t really consider it a “Sandler movie.” Good double-feature with Wayne’s World. I really liked the format of this episode. Perhaps try this again with Police Academy. I’ve always been a fan (outside of the 7th film). Admittedly, there’s a big nostalgia factor there.

Brett Lawrence

Are the Lonely Island guys and Seth MacFarlane wrapping a Naked Gun reboot with Liam Neeson?

Thomas Bishop

Going to watch Punch Drunk Love to find out why it’s one of the 52 1/2 films in Ryan’s Top Ten. It’s on Criterion streaming.

Trevor Poe

Airheads would be a great episode. Maybe a 90s brendan frasier collection. Encino Man etc...

Carlisle

This was one your best episodes, guys. I say you do one of these quarterly.

Lux Anatis

I’m pretty sure Josh Gad is backed by Disney and that’s why he’s so connected snd “in.” And to the ‘funny fat guy’ point, the only other mainstream one (I can think of) for a while was James Corden and he seems way more polarizing. Now there’s the guy on The Bear and the guy that’s going to play Chris Farley for a little more variety.

Mary and Steve

Or the 7 movie Smokey and the Bandit collection

JokersJuicyAss

He was Buck?

I don’t know if it’s just the sort of stuff Steve and I gravitate toward or what but Blake Clark seems to pop up everywhere. He’s also the current voice of Slinky in Toy Story! As a former ‘punk girl’ I have a soft spot for Little Nicky. It’s dumb as hell but my gang of friends and I watched it a lot the summer after it came out. Also, to the ‘why is he bagging bombshells’ point: Patricia Arquette is beautiful but she’s a good ‘believable beauty’ for Sandler IMO. There’s also a lot of decent makeup in Little Nicky. Some of the special effects are rough but at least they’ve got the makeup going for ‘em. (One last Little Nicky thing: Recently we were watching old SNL and there’s this music reviewer character Sandler did on Weekend Update that we’re pretty sure is the origin for the Little Nicky voice. So if you can’t get enough (🤭) look up Gil Graham.)

Mary and Steve

Also Jughead on Riverdale!

Yea, why is that fat hog employed? Definitely one of those cases where if he was a gentile, we'd have never heard of him

God, I hate Adam Sandler. And Uncut Gems is just another annoying trope of the gambling addict. Where you are forced to sit there and watch somebody self destruct and cant wrap your brain around their addiction. The other thing about Uncut Gems, I could barely stand how ugly most of the people in that film were. Not to sound antisemitic, but half those actors looked like caricatures you'd see on some antisemitic nazi poster in the 1930's.

Louie Caponecchia

Critically analyzing Adam Sandler's ouvre seems similar to like those people who go to 50 Chili's in 50 days on youtube. It may be strangely interesting, but also why? Why do you want to do dat?

Thomas Bishop

Even if you don’t do all the Happy Madison films that Sandler didn’t star in at least watch DEUCE BIGELOW: EUROPEAN GIGOLO. Not good as a movie but the scene of Norm at the Gigolo Union meeting is one of the funnier things you will see in life.

cdpren

That one backwoods guy from Sandler’s crew was good as the fella trying to “date” Uma Thurman in KILL BILL.

cdpren

Love the Mr Sandman intro music, not sure if it's new or not but that song is killer

Steven Trotter

Fun fact about Big Daddy, one of my childhood favorite sitcoms, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, the kid in Big Daddy is played by the same actors of Zack and Cody

JokersJuicyAss

Fun fact about Longest Yard, last role of Jerry Reed before he died

JokersJuicyAss

Love the josh gadd hate- the guy is a talentless hack. I bet you he was the type of guy who went and dobbed on people in school

Nicholas Salahari

I will say the other comedy Sandler movie I love is anger management because of Nicholson

Luke Gordnier

Arnold was one of my action heroes growing up alsoBruce Willis rewatched Die Hard 3 would be good to do a retrospective on Bruce Willis (sad what happened to him he has dementia I believe)

Michael Sgambati

Really Enjoyed this hope you do more (Films Of "Insert Actor Here") like arnold schwarzenegger recently rewatched Commando (1985) and Predator (1987) really like to hear your thoughts on him and those two films

Michael Sgambati

Ryan the movie you thinking of where Pointier is chain to a white man is the defiant ones

Luke Gordnier

31 Sandler movies? No excuses then. Do Bond next time.

Lux Anatis

Billy Madison is a mediocre movie that has great scenes and payoffs

Luke Gordnier

In terms of Sandler: happy gillmore is his best comedy movie and Punch Drunk Love is his best drama

Luke Gordnier

Speaking of no such thing as a bad movie, I’m excited to see Joe talk about nothing but trouble at some point on that pod.
