Patreon Exclusive: The Films of Frank Oz

Hey everyone, here's the new Patreon bonus episode for you! On it, we run through the filmography of director Frank Oz - everything from The Dark Crystal up to The Score. Also, we recorded this episode at Ryan's place and therefore did not get to go through all of the great stuff that has recently been sent to the PO Box. We will be going over that for the next Patreon episode so stay tuned!

For the next main episode, we have decided to go with Tyler's suggestion of Miracle Mile. We'll also discuss the director's previous movie, Cherry 2000, as well as a movie he co-wrote that we've been meaning to talk about, Strange Brew!

Then on Patreon, we will cover Welcome to Marwen. It's not related to the above picks but we figured it's time to subject ourselves to it. Thanks to all of you who provided a suggestion, we will definitely come back to that thread when looking for future episode ideas!

Actor redundancy. The 2nd time ed norton has played the simple nice guy who is actually an evil guy playing simple

Carlisle

Agreed, one of the most obnoxious films I’ve ever seen. Just something about Stepford Wives that annoyed me so much.

Heath Chamerski

Oh man. I'm rewatching Muppet Treasure Island and I'm thinking you guys should do a Happytime Murders episode with a Brian Henson era Muppets companion episode.

Bill Leon

Did either of you guys happen to see The Hustle? It was a fairly recent remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson in the obvious roles.

To be fair, she did word her thoughts on the Potter fandom in a not well thought out way, so I could see why someone would take offence to her statement. Really, she was on about the "adult side" of the fandom, the ones who are obsessed with it to the point where they'd stage a wedding theme around Harry Potter. She said she was happy to be in them, but that it's time to let it fade out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x8v9dioM4M

Seems like she’s just known for her cheeky comments roasting people. As always, I thank everyone on Patreon for helping me see what I’m missing! 😂

Almost Cult Classics

This provides some context. Seems like maybe the entertainment news sites have just taken her snide comments out of context

You've certainly offended the entirety of Britain with your comments about Miriam Margolyes (She's of British origin, though resides in Australia). She's beloved for her appearances on The Graham Norton Show, seeing as they love how unfiltered she is with her stories and thoughts. I mean, this is the woman who described her breasts as "friendly" when flashing the cast & crew on the Age of Innocence, said Momma Mia was "dreadful" to one of its stars during his appearance, and admitted she "creamed her knickers" when she met Laurence Oliver. "Nasty Woman" is never a word I would use to describe her, seeing as she never comes off like that in any of the interviews I've seen her in.

Joe, please make your Heather Graham in the Cupboard idea a reality. - Steve

A few months ago my family and I watched Takes Manhattan. We've always loved it but forgot how funny the Muppet Babies segment was. Kermit on the rocking horse nearly broke us

Demetreas Andrews

Miriam makes a good point about fandom, as rude as she may have put it. Grown adults shouldn't be so obsessive over these things that it becomes a part of their identity and it seems to me that it's becoming such an issue that it needs to start being addressed. Everytime I hear this sort of thing defended I just think about what it would've been like had my parents dedicated themselves to, say, Scooby Doo or something. It's almost as if entertainment is filling a hole in the lives of those of my generation that was once filled by something else in those of others.

I love the Dark Crystal!!!!! Personally, I prefer it over Labyrinth because I think the varied characters and atmosphere are more interesting to look at. Our local movie theater did a midnight screening of Dark Crystal 10-15 years back and it was incredible to see the all the creatures on the big screen. Rowlf is the best Muppet!!! Ryan, you should listen to “Sir Bodsworth Rugglesby III” by Klaatu - it sounds soooo much like Rowlf. Steve put me on to it years ago. (Muppets Take Manhattan is too sad for me :( Caper has some good bits but the first movie is my favorite) And Little Shop of Horrors is one of my favorite movie musicals - my 30th birthday was peak-pandemic and we rented out a theater to screen Little Shop. It was fantastic!! Levi Stubbs voice for Audrey II is so powerful, another song recommendation for y’all is The Four Tops’ “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” It’s bonkers. We’re seeing Miriam Margolyes later this week at a showing of The Apple lol

Y'know, I didn't even realise Miriam was Australian before listening into this episode 😂 She's always saying something outrageous or just outright horrible so I don't really know what to make of her -- though I did find her Harry Potter comments extremely funny

Tom Goodwin

Forgot to mention, this sequence from Muppets Take Manhattan led to the creation of the Muppet Babies cartoon show, which I remember watching constantly as a kid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uyvuaxTDvQ

Ryan Lancello

Honestly that’s how I feel about the dark crystal.

Luke Gordnier

Oh yeah I do I haven’t seen the original.

Luke Gordnier

Probably Popeye

JokersJuicyAss

Surely you mean the remake

Brian Kish

What do you think is their worse episode?

Luke Gordnier

Fun fact about royal tennebaums that Joe will like: Gene Wilder was rumored to be considered for the Hackman character.

Luke Gordnier

There are impressive elements throughout the movie, I just really don’t like the story

Almost Cult Classics

Ryan heavily disagree with The Freshmen being the worst episode while I do respect you two for always looking at the positives of movies listening to Ryan going, "This fucking movie." Grinding his teeth, slamming his fist down on the table, it's entertaining. Also the sound is good in that episode which is something the first few shows don't have

JokersJuicyAss

Hi guys my suggestion would still be Punisher War Zone

Michael Sgambati

I kinda like the opening score to the Indian in the cupboard

Luke Gordnier

Generally, one session

Ryan Lancello

The directors cut ending of little shop of horrors came out when the Blu-ray was released in 2016

Luke Gordnier

The stepford wives is terrible I don’t know if it would make for a good episode.

Luke Gordnier

Curious about your guys recording process. Do you record all the episodes over one session or multiple?

Luke Gordnier

Marweeeeeeeeeeeeeen!!!!!
