Solid comedy. I love Steve Martin, but this is Eddie Murphy's last great performance. Certainly one of his most inspired

2024-04-12 13:10:45 +0000 UTCI always caught bits and pieces on comedy central when I wokld stay home from school but, I will always remember how my chuck e cheese had one of those arcade games where you need to stack the cubes on a screen and one of the prizes was a DVD of Bowfinger.

2024-04-10 00:05:09 +0000 UTCHa yeah I wasn't saying the rest of his movies are complete garbage, I just think that Bowfinger is really great and is elevated a bit above those other movies. I've never actually watched Pink Panther. The remake or the original.

2024-04-09 23:46:57 +0000 UTCThat’s one thing I love about Pluto and Tubi since we don’t have cable. Just turn on a comedy movie like ‘the old times.’ (A game Steve and I will play is ‘guess what scene of the movie it is’ based on how far into the runtime it is.)

2024-04-09 23:19:11 +0000 UTCBowfinger is an excellent example of those ‘tune in halfway through on cable’ movies.

2024-04-09 22:11:36 +0000 UTCAlthough i stand by that groundhog day was the last comedy of the snl/sctv era, bowfiner feels like coda. Some say that this was the last time eddie murphy tried, i disagree, I stand by that he really tried with with norbit. It was the audience's and critic's reception that swayed him toward doing family comedies. I wouldn't say this is anyone's best, but it is a solid watch and a funny depiction of both the explotative producers as well as scientology in hollywood

2024-04-09 20:47:44 +0000 UTCYeah, it's a harmless enough family comedy, but so is Parenthood. And I actually think his Pink Panther isn't THAT bad

2024-04-09 20:47:20 +0000 UTCThat seems like it could be interesting. Steve Martin apparently wrote it as well. I'm not gonna lie though, I am kind of a Cheaper by the Dozen fan.

2024-04-09 20:31:40 +0000 UTCWhat, you're not a fan of Bringing Down the House?! Seriously, though, Shopgirl is pretty good and released a few years later, but it's not exactly the zany, high concept comedy he's known for.

2024-04-09 20:27:57 +0000 UTC"Bowfinger is one of those comedies that makes me sad we never see its type again, but happy that it does exist. Even though it’s not the most original idea, the concept and plot are cleverly written & executed. Everyone is managing to deliver 110% to their comedic roles (Especially Murphy), knowing what the material requires to sell the act. Most importantly, it kind of inspires you to pick up a camera and make your own cheap schlock, which is something this subgenre should aim to do. If there’s any real negative to be found with this film, it’s how it’s kind of hard to find on VOD over here (I wanted to buy a digital copy for my iTunes)." - Extract from my own review: https://boxd.it/5DOM2Z

2024-04-09 20:27:36 +0000 UTCI remember enjoying it a lot and finding it very funny. Have not revisited it but still surprised it is not talked about more today.

2024-04-09 20:22:23 +0000 UTCI actually rewatched it recently and found out I had fused it in my memory with Showtime, which also starred Eddie Murphy. Anyway, I seem to remember the marketing focusing so heavily on the nerdy twin brother character that I thought the entire was about and even titled after him. I was really surprised to find he doesn't show up until around the halfway point and isn't really a major part of the story. I think the movie is pretty uneven and the ending especially implausible. There's no way what they showed at that premiere would be accepted as a Hollywood production ready for wide theatrical release! It's funny you guys are doing this one next after how hard you balked at the two Hollywood insider Hollywood satires in that awesome recent catch up episode.

2024-04-09 20:07:15 +0000 UTCOne of the best comedies of the 90s. It may be the last great comedy movie for both Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy. (Minus Dolemite is My Name for Eddie Murphy)
