This movie is so wonderful, and I enjoyed your reaction to it. The book is fantastic as well, both gripping and emotional and at the same time hilarious. According to the author of the book, Fredrik Backman, Parvaneh and Patrik are essentially him and his wife. The one thing I find a bit ridiculous in the story is the plotline with Rune being taken from his wife and placed in a care facility. In reality it’s quite literally the opposite of how it works in Sweden these days. Many people who want or need for their relatives to be placed in a retirement home are denied, or made to wait for a long time. The root of the problem is that there aren’t enough spots available, I guess, but I have a hard time thinking they would try to move Rune against his wife’s wishes. All in all though that plotline doesn’t ruin the book or the movie for me, I think it’s a wonderful story with fantastic characters. I was a bit disappointed by the Hollywood remake though. Huge Tom Hanks fan, but he just can’t pull off the grumpy old ”karen” man (IMHO). I also felt like they put far too little focus on Ove/Otto’s relationship with his wife, and since that’s the core of the story the US version just didn’t move me the same way. You should give it a watch though, and see what you think of it.

I'm glad you enjoyed watching it with me, I got pretty emotionally invested in the character which wasn't expected. I don't normally get that teary when watching movies lol! Saab went bankrupt? I didn't know that, we had that car company in the UK I remember them. Volvo was considered an old mans car in the UK. LOL!

Glad to see this movie again with you. I’d forgotten half of it. It’s a sweet film and Rolf Lassgård does a great job as Ove! Also glad you liked it. Saab and Volvo were Swedish cars and almost all Swedes used to drive one or the other. Sadly Saab went bankrupt some years ago and Volvo (passenger cars) was sold to a Chinese company (even though we still like to consider it Swedish).
