The Defenders: Worst Behavior [Ep 03] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Comments

Danny was orphaned at age 10, surviving a plane crash then spent 15 years being violently “trained” by the people who saved you. Luke grew up with both parents in a town where his father was the local charismatic reverend. He became a cop and then was framed by his brother and sent to prison. They both suffered unfairly, but Danny suffered as a child where Luke was a full grown man when his misfortune started. Suffering isn’t a competition, there’s no scale to measure your pain against someone else’s despite what the woke say. Luke is the one prejudging Danny, invalidating his pain and loss because he’s rich and white. Arguing that in order to judge people who dispose of bodies for a living, you have to live on their block. As if your social economic status justifies accessory to murder after the fact, destruction of evidence and probably more. Luke cage season 1 understood this, that’s what Pop was all about by making his staff dress nice for work and taxing them for their bad language. Luke cage was working 2 jobs at the beginning of Luke cage. He was offered higher paying work by cottonmouth and turned it down immediately. Poverty is not an excuse to criminality, if it was then why do so many poor people obey the law?

Thanks for watching! The Luke and Danny vibe is so funny.. wonder if it will evolve a bit as we make our way through the episodes.

Episode 3! It’s cool to see the “rebirth” process in full in the intro. It’s interesting to think about how this is about the same process that Harold Meachum must have gone through (though presumably a few hours after instead of a few days like Elektra) after he died. I’m honestly excited to see if we learn any more about the Hand past this show. Still haven’t seen any other seasons after this came out, so who knows? Absolutely love Luke and Danny’s personalities and experience clashing, and that ending! Can’t wait for next episode.
