I would have been fine with it being platonic too, but still happy with what we got! Much better than the movie Passengers, anyhow. 😂

I do like the episode a lot, but I also have to suspend some part of my thoughts on Fitz and Simmons relationship with it. She is there for 196 days, the first 35-40 completely on her own unrelated to him. Then from that point to day 149 she has complete hope, and doesn't think for a moment she isn't going back to Fitz. So she never grieves the newly forming relationship they were falling into, that is also the most intense time of a relationship for that grief to be pretty powerful. She jumps from that, to immediately kissing and being with Will fully the very moment she finally thinks she isn't going home. It just seems a bit forced for the storyline (even though it is hinted at earlier as well). I personally think the writers felt the story couldn't stand on it's own without it, or that the need for her to come back without it would work. I disagree and think it would have worked fine without it and it be platonic. Everything else is great for me though.

Thank you!

100%!!!

Dam this episode got u. I loved 🥰 watching you. I haven’t seen you smile like these in a while. It put me in such a great mood I loved you talk afterwards. 😍😍😍

Perry Campbell

Her cake in this episode was also the TARDIS I believe from Dr who.

This was not only a great episode of this series, but one of the better hours of tv produced that year. Henstridge is great in this episode, and it shows how much her character has grown. It sets the stage for more growth further on.

Rick Moreno

She's fantastic!

kaiielle

So crazy. 😢

I'm sure you've seen or figured it out already, but the reason why they were out and drinking the wine was because there was supposed to be a few mins of sun and Jemma said to Will to not worry if they miss it, there'll be another sunrise in 18 years.

You can't say enough about the growth and acting of Elizabeth Henstridge acting in this episode, the comments covered most everything. So I was thinking could any Dr. Who fans see Elizabeth Henstridge being in that show or even as the Dr, I mean she's British and her Jemma character did make an easter egg reference to Dr. Who way back in Season one I think. I think it would be fun to see .

Chris Elkins

That's wild! That would be brutal to work in. Everyone did a great job.

kaiielle

The producers weren't sure whether or not they would get the go-ahead, from the Network and other agencies, to film this episode as it was totally different to anything they'd done! An episode featuring only one of the main cast was considered a risk but Elizabeth & Dillon Casey were amazing and makes it a standout episode of the show to date. Incidentally, the temperatures whilst filming the episode were 100+ and most of the film crew, including the director and writer, suffered from heatstroke!

Appreciate that, thank you! And I'm happy you're here, we love having more AOS fans show up to Patreon!

Yeah, Fitz is a super lovely dude. I like him a lot!

kaiielle

I’m so sorry, Kaiielle. It’s been a while since I saw the whole show. I forgot about that. I’m usually not one to spoil anything. I’ll be more careful going forward.

Aldo Gonzales

Yeah, my favorite episode up until this point, too. And Fitz's response to it all at the end pretty much confirmed him as my favorite character of the show.

Steve Mercier

I'm down for the love triangle, personally. 😅 Makes for good storytelling and character development.

kaiielle

Some interesting facts that are never confirmed in the show but can be put together. Even though they missed the shot into the portal the sand was kicked up from the attempt and the one thing Fitz found in the case that helped him figure out the solution in 3x2 was him finding sand. It fell into the portal and was in the case so they helped Fitz find them. Also Simmons cries when seeing wine at dinner with Fitz because she was reminded of having drinks with will and wanting better wine and the guilt set in for her so she started trying to find a way back. Will introduction was so conflicting for fans. He is such a good character and this episode was so amazing as an intro to a character but he creates this triangle we don't want. This is the MCU so cellphone battery life is way different once we have people like ironman creating suits with lots of energy. Fitz as an engineer with shield tech he would definitely know how to expand the battery at least more than what we consider as a long battery life. One of the best episodes so far in my opinion.

Christopher simeon

Definitely a stand-out episode! Thanks for the info. 😊

So, we take a brief break from last episode's (minor 😉) cliffhanger to get the full story of what happened to Jemma. Not really a bottle episode in the traditional sense - given that a lot of it is shot on location in Death Valley, with almost no use of the standing sets for the Playground it doesn't really qualify - but the focus almost exclusively on Jemma and Will really sets the episode apart from the others so far. Apparently there was 22 minutes of footage cut from the episode - there's a couple of deleted scenes available, but those are only about a minute each. The sword and satchel Jemma finds are those belonging to the person selected as 'the traveller' in the flashback to 1839 from 3x02. We also find out why the bottle of wine in the restaurant affected Jemma as it did - it was a reminder of Will. As for what Will & Jemma were eating, we see Jemma foraging for roots and fungi - that appears to have been the main source of nutrition for them.

Please be mindful when you're leaving comments. The show hasn't mentioned "Maveth" yet. I know it's just a name, but still. Thank you.

kaiielle

If we do a little math converting, 4,722 hours equals six months, two weeks, and two days. That’s how long Jemma was stuck on Maveth. Elizabeth Henstridge spent about a week up in Simi Valley and Northridge (both located in the San Fernando Valley) working on this episode. Most of her co-stars had some time off, but Iain still had a role in the ending.

Aldo Gonzales

Enjoy!

kaiielle

YES, oh my gosh she is fantastic.

kaiielle

love this episode and love that Elizabeth Henstridge got this standout moment to show off her acting!
