I have always tought that yeah there's gotta be life out there, but we humans may not be able to detect it with our senses. maybe they're light beings that can't also see us or don't care cuz they're in another state of matter or whatever, so in my story normal people can't see people from ixion even tho they're parallel planets in parallel planes, so only the "travelers" with a keen sense can pereceive them. I haven't explained it correctly but the EV lenses are made from a mineral replicated by what was in Dexter's glove that lets people interact with the other plane and visce versa, the lenses aren't precisely tech like those lenses that enhance vision that are in production IRL, they enhance your vision so you can see other things a normal being can't (that's why they're called EV, enhanced vision) They were developed by Dexter when he was desperately trying to get in touch with the visitors so he ended up doing a watered down version of the visitors and a watered down version of a mean to interact with them. Part of the last things he did before he was murdered is to "perfect" his watered down versions of the visitors. That's the "upgrade"
