As much as I love the action in this show, the dialogue-only scenes are powerful too, so agreed with you that courtroom scenes are very welcomed!

Definitely setting up well for a great second half. Love all your thoughts on everything!

Yes, Karen and Frank have a fantastic dynamic. I love it. And I'm glad that the scene turned out the way it did. "DIY conversations" are very annoying. My Dad is the same way - so much is implied and you just have to "know".

So Roxxon is like the BNL (Pixar) of the MCU? 😂

kaiielle

Hell, I don't even swing that way and I was sitting here all giddy about Karen looking at him that way haha.

It been a good few episodes, Elektra is something else for sure like the spoiled brat that you just cant get rid of cause you cant help yourself that you need to help her out lol. I'm excited in a way that its slower paced and might get to see the lawyer side of Matt and Foggy in the courtroom now they are defending Frank. The look of fear in Reyes eyes when Frank called her out was great, shes on his todo list imo one way or another. I think shes been covering up the truth about his family to long and he knows about it now. Matt and Karen too cute need I say more :)

Elektra saying "I understand" doesn't necessarily mean "I agree". She knows all too well how to play Matt. Frank saying "I know who you are. You protect shitbags" makes me wonder if that was his own way of letting Matt know that he knew Matt was Daredevil. I LOVE how Matt and Foggy caught Reyes in her own bullshit. Of course she'll work on finding another way to get what she wants but oh man that was satisfying seeing her get smacked in the face with what she's been shoveling. In a lot of ways, Reyes is more dangerous than Punisher ever was. He went after irredeemable scumbags. Reyes burns anyone in her way to get what she wants. Seeing Matt and Karen legitimately happy and smiling is wonderful but I'm concerned. Matt's ex demanding his presence at random times doesn't exactly bode well. I don't blame Frank, I don't know that I could ever step foot in my house again after something like that. Seeing my kids' rooms, toys that'll never be played with again, little beds that will never be slept in again... it'd kill me. His memory of how it was is all he needed. And Karen confirming it's basically the same was a good way to connect with him and see that he is a human being and not some monster that Reyes wants the public to think he is. He's willing to own up to what he did, he just needed that small piece of humanity back. Ah, yes, the Yakuza. Highly skilled, trained assassins that apparently missed the very important lessons "look down", "video looping", and the Art of Distraction at Yakuza school. Never schedule Pretzel Day during vital training sessions. Oh! Not Yakuza. Now it makes sense. Foggy helplessly saying "Why are you fancy?" will never not be funny to me. Well, now it's getting chaotic. Being Daredevil., Elektra's mystery, Punisher's defense, and a relationship with his secretary....Distracted is an understatement. If Matt's going to juggle everything, he has to tell Karen the truth, especially if he hopes to get serious with her. "You hear that witch? I'm going to watch you burn right along with me" - Holy crap, what does Frank have on Reyes? That will be interesting to find out. Maybe it's all the compromising and back-alley deals she's done? Can't wait to relive the back half of this season!

The bit where Frank was talking to Karen and he said "what did I just say to you?"...he heard a scream...now, if he had been on deployment, it would have been time to get you and yours to cover and adopt a defensive position...but he didn't do that...because he wasn't thinking like a Marine in that moment. So, when Karen says "how could you know?" And he says "what'd I just say to you?" He's essentially saying "Lady, I just told you I heard a scream...I should have made them duck and cover, should have put them behind me, should have...etc." because, he wasn't thinking like a Marine (in a place where he should have had every right NOT to think like a Marine. He was in Central Park, not Kandahar) he feels his inaction got them killed (when, let's be real...without body armor, they weren't getting out of there alive...but you'd never be able to convince Frank that he couldn't have saved them). To him, all of those "should have"s are so hard wired into him that it doesn't really register that Karen wouldn't automatically know what "I heard a scream" meant. Frank either speaks in monologues or a small handful of words at a time. When it's the latter, you sometimes have to fill in the blanks somewhat, ha. My dad was similar with the DIY conversations. There were a lot of things that were implied and just went unsaid if you knew him. If he said, say, "Are you finished eating?" that meant "if you're finished eating, get your ass up, go scrape your plate, rinse it, put it in the dishwasher, and see if the trash needs to go out." If I failed to do any of those things, I'd get a "didn't I ask you if you were finished eating?" Because the rest was implied, followed by "I shouldn't hafta spell it out for you, Schmuckatelli." (Schmuckatelli being Marine Corps lingo for the perpetual screw-up in the unit.) Fun tidbit: my dad used to teach the sniper course that Frank referenced in that scene...only he taught it out of Camp Lejeune, not Quantico. Originally, they wanted Karen to be much more skittish in that scene...to keep her distance, mind the red tape. But it was Deb's first chance to really work with Bernthal and she was like "I wanna get in his face..." and thank goodness...because that scene wouldn't have had nearly the same impact if they treated it like Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter. I will never not love to hear Frank call Karen "ma'am".

Elektra's costume in the show is waaaay better than her original comics costumes... so much so that they would start using it in the comics after this season came out. There was also recently a Daredevil-ified version of it when she had to take on the role for awhile. Oh, also, a small connection to the wider MCU... The Roxxon Corporation is a generic evil mega-corp that pops up frequently in the comics. The name has appeared in several other MCU movies and shows, but usually only as a throwaway reference or Easter egg.

Another great episode. Love the talk between Frank and Karen.

I feel like all us men want a woman that looks at us like Karen looks at Matt. Their romance is so cute. And Deborah's portrayal gives it an honestly that you don't see often in film and tv relationships.

Carl Johnson

I laughed so hard at Elektra checking out Matt when he changed clothes in the car.
