Attack on Titan 120 'Erwin Smith: The 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls, Part 4' - EARLY ACCESS UNCUT FULL REACTION

Man, the way I totally forgot to put the spy aspect into Erwin's plan. 🤦‍♀️ Thanks so much for taking the time to write this down! Definately cleared some things up for me. I can't wait to delve into the last few episodes of season (and probably start season 2 too) this week!

Erwin's plan makes total sense to me when you consider that the people within the walls are all dealing with next to no knowledge on the titans and therefore are operating in the dark most of the time and have to take risks and make sacrifices at even the slightest chance of learning a bit more about the titans. In this case capturing the Female Titan, which is a huge thing since getting all the info out of the human inside would change everything for them. Erwin deals with the base level knowledge they have and works around it. He knows it's been 5 years since the Colossal and Armoured titans aka the intelligent titans first attacked the walls and anyone associated them would've infiltrated the walls and the Survey Corps, etc. Therefore he only trusted the veterans who had been around since before then to be in on the plan, since they're only ones he could essentially guarantee wouldn't be a spy. He knows the intelligent titans are after Eren since once his power was revealed in Trost they didn't try to break the walls again after he plugged it with the boulder. He lured them out by announcing their goal of reaching the basement which supposedly holds secret knowledge on the origins of the titans when he was making his speech to the new recruits, which Armin noticed. And we see how Erwin's misinformation played into their favour a few episodes ago. When it was revealed that each squad had gotten different formation plans which each had Eren at a different position in the formation. This is so any supposed spy wouldn't be able to find Eren in the formation, As we saw the Female Titan attacked from the right wing of the formation which means the formation plans they had gotten their hands on had Eren in the right wing. Which is why it took them so long to actually reach Eren in the centre rear which gave them enough time to set up the trap in the forest. Overall based off the information they were working with, the plan went almost perfectly since the Female Titan was captured, and to their knowledge had no way of escaping. The only reason it failed was due to the Female Titan having a crystal hardening ability and an ability to scream and call abnormal titans to it. Two abilities they've never seen before and Erwin and the Survey Corps had no way of planning around. This show delves deeply into the cost of human sacrifice, but in an environment where the humans know nothing of the enemy and are facing man eating monsters, plus intelligent ones that want to wipe out humanity. It's inevitable people are going to die in the fight against them.
