Chapter 2050 highlighted a deep insecurity we don’t normally see out of Rand. The President character obviously hit a nerve. While it’s true that not ALL of the responsibility for the hardships zone 1 goes through falls at Rand’s feet, that was never really in question. But clearly, some responsibility exists. The fact that Rand outright denies it shows how much pressure he is under right now. It was so painful to have that type of conversation, that Randidly went out of his way to remove the threat to his sanity. This is an indication that there is something else going on. Maybe he’s getting burned out. Maybe he needs to get his priorities in order. What does he WANT? Maybe he needs to take a good hard look at his own taboos, especially this one: “maybe even with all my power, I don’t know best”.
