On Generative AI
Added 2025-03-04 12:04:39 +0000 UTCI know this is a controversial subject among artists, and since I am using image genrerative AIs, I want to make my stance on the matter clear.
I do not use AI with any ill intent toward artists. I have been collecting fanarts online since the early 2000 and allway felt respect for their creators. This is why I am in favor of training data being properly licencied, not scrapped off the internet and used without consent or compensation.
Were I do not follow artists however, is where a good chunk of them expressing themselves on social media call for the ban of AI alltogether. This is a tool that has the potential to make any one of us art dirrectors of our own projects withour having to shelve an undecent amout of money, and I am not willing to let this opportunity pass. The law regarding copyright of the training data should be upheld, but to wish for the technology itself to disapear is pure delusion.
Finaly, as a user of image gen AI for more than 2 years now, I can assure you that it is nowere near ready to take your jobs. The only thing it can realistically do now is first draft concept art, and even then, it need a good chunk of technical knowledge from the user to produce something decent. Your average X/Reddit prompter will not get anything that can compete with what you can do.
