Attached Crabs

Exploring how attachment alters movement, awareness, and intuition

This is not about smoothing movement into uniformity but about discovering what gets co-shaped when individual autonomy meets tandem movements.

The activity

When two crabs are bound together, neither moves as they would alone. This module invites you to link arms with your partner (like Crisscrossing), connect heads (like Head-to-Head Connection), and step wide. Keep the heels light—perhaps even floating—so you lean just enough into each other to strengthen the attachment. Together, move sideways through space. You can trace a line, a circle, or, as shown in the video, a square.

Imaginary conditions

You can imagine holding a giant egg between your legs— move without cracking it. You can also imagine a fragile soap bubble between your legs, or repelling magnets between your feet. These self-imposed conditions will keep your legs soft, light, and spread apart.

Analyzing the video

Roots remain broad and apart, even when the feet draw closer. If the feet collapse inward, the shared structure destabilizes. This awkwardness is intentional. We are used to moving in isolation, each step our own. But when you attach yourself to another body, the rules shift. Balance, comfort, and intuition are now shared.

At first, the motion feels forced, like two strangers trying to walk in rhythm. With time, it softens. A shared logic develops—a felt sense of how to move together. This is not about smoothing movement into uniformity but about discovering what gets co-shaped when individual autonomy meets tandem movements.

Safety

For comfort, you may wear protective headgear. For safety, a mouthguard is recommended.
