Cindy's Temptation

Panting, Polly pushed Cindy's wheelchair the last few meters to the recently opened overlook at the edge of Central Park, the city's largest green space. Although she had walked the shortest possible distance from a bus stop, her plastered legs were beginning to ache and sweat was collecting on her forehead. The soreness of her muscles of her bum and legs from the day before had improved a bit, but it still hindered Polly a bit from her usual (more or less) fluid movements.

But as soon as she put on the brakes on Cindy's wheelchair and let her eyes wander over the lower-lying parts of the park, she had the impression that she had done the right thing. The view was truly magnificent. The different shades of green were pleasing to her eyes and the contrast with the skyline at the edge of the park was really impressive. Moreover, she could now see the only other way to reach the viewpoint. A staircase led straight up without any curve. Right next to the steep steps was a ramp, presumably to be able to push a bike up here.

Or, instead of pushing wheeled vehicles up and down that ramp, one could be tempted by this ramp to recklessly roll the shortest way down to the Pump Track facility, which was located at the bottom of the stairs and was currently moderately crowded. To Polly's surprise, there were only a few people in Central Park at that moment. In fact, they were the only visitors even here at the overlook.

"Oh, Polly! This view is so beautiful!" Cindy's violet eyes lit up and she stretched her two pink short arm casts out to the right and left as if to hug the park that spread out in front of her. Polly's crutch lay across both her thighs, which were encased in pink casts as well. "I thought about getting in touch with Joy again. I am sure, she will like this sight, too. Look, the botanical gardens down there, the fountain and..." Cindy hesitated for a moment and her voice sounded a bit slightly pressed. "... the brand new pump track facility."

Polly put one hand on Cindy's shoulder while she leaned on the wheelchair with the other. "What do you feel when you see the Pump Track?" she asked in an inquiring voice.

"I..." Cindy swallowed. "... feel the desire..." The seven fingers she could move began to tremble, and even her right thumb, as well as the two fingers on her left hand that were in casts, seemed to quiver. "... to get all better again." Smiling wryly, she squinted up at Polly, which was visibly difficult because of her blue soft neck brace. She indicated a shrug of her shoulders, in an effort to appear as innocent as possible. The toes peeking out of her left long leg cast, however, curled treacherously.

"Good girl," Polly praised her, though she had the feeling Cindy had given her exactly the answer she assumed she wanted to be heard, as Cindy's toes, peeking out of her left long leg cast, curled treacherously. But... well... that was exactly why Polly was here with her. Exactly of that reason she had parked Cindy right in front of the top of that steep bike ramp. Exactly of that reason she had put the brakes on. And for that very reason, too, she would now additionally secure the wheelchair to a signpost with a short but strong rope. (Even though that post was on the other side of the path.) Should Cindy decide to roll down the hill, that rope would be Polly's assurance that no harm would come to Cindy.

"Look there, the hot air balloons!" exclaimed Polly, grateful for the opportunity for a distraction. With deft fingers, she tied one end of the rope to Cindy's wheelchair and took her crutch from Cindy's lap. "You know what? You and I deserve some ice cream, don't we? I'm going to go back to that ice cream vendor near the bus stop. But be patient with me. I won't be able to walk fast with my two legs in casts."

"Oh, Polly, what a wonderful idea. Please bring me mint chocolate!" Cindy beamed again and she tried in vain to turn to Polly in her wheelchair.

"Sure, Cindy!"

Polly had to admit to feeling a little embarrassed about lying to Cindy like that. By no means was she planning to get ice cream. Instead, she crossed the path, tied the other end of the rope to a signpost in Cindy's back, and then, with stiff steps of her two long leg walking casts, leaning on her underarm crutch and fighting her sore muscles in her legs and buttocks, she walked back the way they had come. It was bordered on one side by a dense shrubbery and on the other she could have enjoyed the view over the park if only she could have turned her head. But in the end, her metal neck and back brace made it virtually impossible for her to move her neck and upper body, so she couldn't pay attention to anything but the path.

As she turned the first corner, to her surprise, she spotted two young women she knew very well. They were approaching Polly with a tremendous slowness, which was obviously due to their rather poor physical condition. Polly was on the verge of greeting them by waving. But then she remembered her mission, and so she darted sideways into the bushes before anyone other than Sherry and Millie, the craziest lovebirds she ever knew, could spot her.

With her left arm she bent twigs to the side and she used the crutch with her right hand as a kind of machete as she fought her way through the undergrowth. Thorns pricked her toes sticking out of her plastered legs and nettles brushed her bare arms. Several times she got her dress caught on some plants, so that her progress was very slow if she did not want to be betrayed by a torn dress. As she wiped a spider web from her face, she was glad that no spider was sitting on her nose - or worse - seeking refuge in one of her plastered legs.

"I hope you'll appreciate my efforts, Cindy," she muttered to herself before finally arriving at the edge of the bushes from where she could see Cindy sitting quietly in her wheelchair. Leaning on her crutch, Polly took a deep breath. Satisfied, she noted that Cindy had persevered for the past quarter hour as a sign of her promise, without doing anything stupid. However, Polly had the impression that Cindy was rather restless in her wheelchair. Her casted hands kept going suspiciously close to the brakes, only to be jerkily placed back on her lap.

From the side, however, voices slowly approached. Very slowly, because Sherry and Millie couldn't really walk fast.

The last time Polly had seen the two notorious lovebirds, both had been almost completely casted up. Now, at least, their condition had improved somewhat. Sherry, a similar go-getter to Cindy, had traded in her double hip spica cast for two long leg walking casts. Unlike Polly's white plastered legs (Well, after the trip into the bushes, they weren't such white anymore), however, hers were blue. They were slightly bent at the knees, and Sherry was leaning on two forearm crutches, which she operated quite deftly with her arms, both between elbows and fingers in a cast. Her neck brace was gone, as was the cast that had encircled almost her entire torso. Now she wore an extremely revealing top and skirt that was perhaps even shorter than Polly's, revealing the top of her casted legs and the lowest curves of her buttocks with every step.

Millie, who was walking beside her, still had her long cast on her left leg, which she was also still not putting any weight on. Her torso was also still mostly in a cast, but the huge Minerva cast had given way to a slightly smaller Risser cast that started at her chin, immobilized her neck, and then enclosed almost her entire upper body. Only a small window on her breasts allowed a glimpse of her shapely bosom. Her arms were still plastered between her shoulders and fingers, but they were no longer connected to her torso cast with rods. And so she was able to use her two long arm casts to support herself on special crutches on which her casted forearms were strapped to some kind of a platform. Again, she had chosen bright pink casts that glowed so brightly they just caught Polly's eye.

Between the chirping of birds, Millie's and Sherry's voices reached Polly's ears.

"Oh, Sherry! Isn't it a beautiful day today?"

"But, Millie, every day is nice with you, isn't it!"

"I'm really glad we took the walk, Sherry! Out in nature at last. And just look at the view across the park!"

"I'm really glad, too, Mille. Especially about the fact we love each other! When you walk beside me, I don't have eyes for any other beauty."

"Oh, Sherry, you old flatterer!" Millie giggled as if hearing such a compliment for the first time. Then she gave a loud sigh. "What would I do without you?"

"You would find me, Millie! Tomorrow, at the latest, we'd meet. In the waiting room, when we both have the next cast checkup appointment."

"Oh yes, Sherry! I do hope we get some more power back over our joints. I want to finally hug you properly again, Sherry. Feeling you with a touch of my very own skin - not through casted arms!"

"I hope so too, Millie! And believe me. I, too, want to finally feel and caress your perfect body with all my senses again and-"

"Oh, Sherry, don't keep talking! I'm melting under your charm!"

Polly rolled her eyes. Those two really were incorrigible. She put her hands on her hips and was about to leave her hiding place to reprimand the two lovers. If they didn't watch their step, they would trip and fall down the steep stairs. But then she thought of her mission with Cindy again and she held back. She winced all the more, however, when she heard a cutting voice behind her.

"Who did we catch in the bushes here? A wild pee-pee?"

Polly stiffened which was visible even despite her casted legs and her brace, that immobilized her neck and back. Awkwardly she turned around. In front of her stood a policewoman whose tall stature alone intimidated Polly. Her body looked hard and trained and there was not the slightest hint of a smile on her face. When she took off her large aviator sunglasses, hard brown eyes gazed at Polly. Demandingly, she held out her hand.

"Your ID!"

Polly awoke from her stupor and began to return the policewoman's gaze. "How am I, of all people, supposed to be able to pee wildly?" she asked, emphatically innocent. Then she ran her hands along her body, pointing to her metallic neck and back brace as well as her two long leg casts. "I can't even squat down."

Quietly, Sherry's voice came from behind Polly. "You see that, Millie! Someone actually strung a rope across the path here!"

"Indeed, Sherry! That's very dangerous. It's easy to break your bones in a fall!"

"Yes, Millie! We know all about broken bones!"

The policewoman did not put her hand down and continued to look at Polly steadfastly. There was a quiet menace in her gaze, as if she were ready at any moment to leap on Polly and brutally push her to the ground with a police grip.

"It's very unusual to hide in the bushes and..." She leaned to the side to peer past Polly through the branches. "... watch other people!" She blinked briefly, then ran her gaze over Polly's casts before looking past Polly again to see Cindy, Millie, and Sherry there. "You're wearing casts. There are three other women back there with casts on.... Are you stalking? Or are you peeping? Now give me your ID!"

Polly swallowed hard and the color drained from her face. This was not how she had imagined Cindy's temptation. And as soon as Sherry and Millie's conversation continued, things got even worse.

"I'm untying the knot, Millie! See, now the danger is averted!"

"Sherry, you're a real heroine! Let me kiss you!"

Polly cleared her throat and tried to smile as innocent as possible. "Officer, it's not what it looks like. I'm a nurse-" Polly began, trying to look around inconspicuously so she wouldn't miss what was going on behind her back at Cindy's place.

"Don't move!" the policewoman snapped at her, taking a step closer so that she was standing very close to Polly. Being half a head taller, she looked down at Polly and growled, "Your ID!"

"I need to see my patient..." said Polly, gesturing backward with her left thumb, while she leaned on her crutch with her right arm. She smelled the sweet sweat of the policewoman, for whom it had certainly not been easy to follow her through the bushes either.

Behind her, she heard Millie and Sherry kissing and giggling, and she pushed her eyes to the far corner to try to see what was happening there.

Then she heard something bump into each other and Millie and Sherry gasped in surprise.

"Polly!" suddenly cried out Cindy loudly. "Is that you?!"

"Polly..." The policewoman eyed Polly curiously. "Is that your name?"

"That's right! Nurse Polly! I'm sure you've heard of me!" Polly gave the policewoman her friendliest smile.

But another cry from Cindy forestalled a response from the policewoman, "Polly! I'm going down!" Cindy's voice almost rolled over.

Polly would have liked to whirl around and rush to Cindy, but because of the backbrace, her two casted legs and, of course, her still sore muscles, she had no chance to do so.

The policewoman, however, gasped in horror and leaped past her from a standing position. When Polly finally turned around, she could still see the policewoman jumping to Cindy's wheelchair, which just disappeared from her sight. For a few seconds, she heard the screams of several women. Then there were rumbling noises and the screams became much shriller for a brief moment before turning into a collective wail.

Horrified, Polly rushed as fast (or rather slow) as was possible on her two long leg walking casts to the beginning of the ramp and slapped her hands over her mouth in horror. Cindy's wheelchair had tipped over and she was lying on the grass of the slope next to the stairs. Her two casted hands were pressed to her body and tears has gatherered in her eyes. Crouched next to her, teeth clenched, the police officer clutched her left foot with one hand and spoke into her radio with her right. "Sgt. Callahan here! Send backup to the new Central Park lookout. Also, an ambulance, please."

"Roger that, Maddie!" came a reply from the radio.

"Polly, it wasn't me!" shouted Cindy to Polly. "Ouch, my fingers..."

Polly awkwardly crossed both arms in front of her chest and would have liked to tap one foot impatiently on the floor. She had clamped the crutch firmly under her right armpit. Obviously her experiment went so wrong. "Well! I'm not sure, Cindy."

"Really, Polly, you have to believe me. Those two there were bumping into me!" Cindy tried to point a body part in that direction, but all her body parts ached. Even nodding her head seemed too much.

But Polly spotted the two of them even so a little further down the stairs. Millie and Sherry lay in a tangled mess of blue and pink casts in a bizarre and painful embrace of their broken arms and legs. And the moment they heard Polly's voice, they both cried out almost reflexively, "Sorry, Polly!"
