Heated Rivalry EP6 S1 Finale | REACTION

Heated Rivalry EP6 S1 Finale | REACTION

Comments

i just subscribed and late to the party. i love this franchise with all my heart. i read the whole game changer series and watched the show multiple times. and even then watching people's watchalong/reaction to the show, especially you guys' reaction are still very enjoyable for me and left me with a lot of feeling... im a book purist through and through, and i can assure you reading the book only make the watching experience so so much better so you don't have to worry about it taking away the experience. from the book series, only the second "Heated Rivalry" and sixth "The Long Game" book from the series that are about shane & ilya. The others are about another couples while still being in the same universe. the book series goes like this: 1. Game Changer (scott & kip) 2. Heated Rivalry (Illya & Shane) 3. Tough Guy (Fabian & Ryan) 4. Common Goal (Eric & Kyle) [linked to scott & kip plot] 5. Role Model (Troy & Dallas) [linked to illya & shane plot] 6. The Long Game (Illya & Shane pt. 2) In the show they only adapted the plot from the first and second book. I can yap nonstop about the show and books plot comparison but it would turn into a thesis. I must mention that you could definitely tell when reading it that it's written but a straight woman, but Rachel Reid's husband is bisexual and apparently she got a lot of feedback on the queer experience so i think that's why the book speaks to a lot of queer people beside it somewhat feel a bit smutty/soapy novel. so Alastair, or anyone, if you're considering reading the book, please give it a try! you actually don't have to really read it in order and treat it as standalone, but it definitely make the reading experience much better.

You guys should definitely do a rewatch on camera. The first few episodes hit a lot differently on second viewing.

Again great observation Zach about the family stuff, you're going to love The Long Game (book they're using as season two inspo). And did you notice the cinematography, as their driving into the sunset, the space between them makes a heart-shape 💗 Jacob's already said they won't be changing anything about how they make season two, other than they may get more longer episodes, but he's going to follow the same methodology. And unfortunately it won't be before 2027 because he's not written anything. If you're looking for new stuff, 10 Dance (it's odd), Looking, Queer as Folk (original UK and the US remake), It's a Sin (although not all of these are HEA romances), also Shadowhunters has an epic MM relationship, one that's spawned fanfic of the ages 🤣😂 Film wise though, loads: Maurice, My Beautiful Launderette, Beautiful Thing, God's Own Country, Private Romeo, Five Dances, Shelter, Latter Days, Were the World Mine, Weekend (open ending but not sad), Red, White and Royal Blue (although it's tame), To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, Pricilla, Queen of the Desert, Big Eden, The Way He Looks, Boys, Make the Yuletide Gay, Morgan, Freier Fall (German with subtitles, not a HEA but still epic) and The Falls (three films, the HEA is in the last one). The show is almost word for word from the books, so you would get an enhanced experience. Kip and Scott is book one, Heated Rivalry is book two.

Did you notice - the one scene that's not in the book is Shane and Yuna's conversation - that the writing makes Yuna take the blame. She said I'm sorry "I" made you feel like you couldn't tell me, not I'm sorry "YOU" didn't feel like you could tell me. Brilliant writing from Jacob Tierney there, Shane's still got the shame and the guilt and Yuna isn't having any of it.

Louise

Alistair don't ever change! I love the way you wear your heart on your sleeve so openly and aren't afraid to show that you're affected by the emotions 💗

Louise

Also Zach, very astute observations about the way their interactions sexually have changed. Not sure if you notice the mirroring of scenes throughout the show. In their first cottage hook-up it's practically shot for shot the same as the first hookup but it's in the light - Ilya opening the blinds so he can see Shane. And yes, Shane is autistic but he isn't aware, you can tell in all the little ticks he has. Hudson Williams has said he took inspiration from his own father who is autistic. McGill's a Canadian college with a great ice hockey team 😁

Louise

Zach your hating on Kip is absolutely hilarious! The poor guy is in love with Scott Hunter - the no1 ice hockey player in the Major League Hockey world :D Also Kip's a bit truncated in this show, his character's much more nuanced in the book.

Louise

2nd time watching. Thanks again for the shout out Zach!!! I know you won't see this but thanks... really!!

rory poulsen

My favorite part, other than the love. “Stupid Canadian wolf bird”

Wayne Knight

This was cute! It looked like Zach's cold heart started defrosting a bit at one point. Lol Alastair and I could never be in the same room while watching something like this show. We'd just be two blubbering messes. Lol

Chris Metzger

I think that show gives some hints guys on what you two should do next lol.

Brad Harper

You two have so much chemistry.
