I subscribed to HBO/MAX on Christmas day, and watched episodes 1-5. Today I watched the finale. Wow. No spoilers, but episode 6 had definite "Heartstopper" vibes, if "Heartstopper" had been rated NC-17.

Sam Cuthbertson

Belated Merry Christmas!! Delayed watching this until season finale day. I'm about to re-watch all of the episodes before watching the finale. Episode five got me man. question...at the end, when Scott is about to call Kip down to the ice, Shane and Ilya text, "What is he doing? and " I don't know". But the expressions on their faces seemed concerning. Do you think they know about Scott and Kip? In my mind it seemed they did. Maybe Scott and one of them had talked, possibly even hooked up, and Scott confided to one of them. Just a thought that ran through my head watching it the first time. I have the books but I'm waiting until after the finale to read them. Wishing all of you a Happy New Year and sending you all my best!!

Dennis Canright

I'd imagine they'll stick pretty close to The Long Game for S2, it's what's got them all the fans for the first one. Jacob Tierney's said we're definitely going to be seeing some of the characters from the other three books, Tough Guy (Ryan Price name check already), Common Ground (Kyle already in the show), and we'll have to see Troy and Harris from Role Model as their timeline overlaps TLG and has important plotlines for Shane and Ilya's story too. Crave isn't Canadian HBO, it doesn't rely on any funding from it and the show was already being shipped around overseas before HBO picked it up. It's been fairly clear it was likely getting an S2 even before they got the overseas market locked down because of the massive hype once the trailer dropped from the hints Jacob's said in some of the interviews he's given.

I'm enjoying the reactions to this series way too much for someone who hasn't watched a single episode. I definitely have to subscribe to HBO. And Alastair, you're so right about Netflix. I should drop it, but I really want to see the "Heartstopper" movie, and a second season of "3 Body Problem" is on the way.

Sam Cuthbertson

Loved it. Every minute. Who doesn't dream of this happening to them? If this would have happened when I was growing up how much different would my life have been? I know Zach struggles with showing emotion but that's okay. And Alastair wears his heart on his sleeve and that's okay too. It's 3:00am, I have to go to bed. Merry Christmas to all!!! And good luck Alabama vs Indiana.

Wondering how tight the producers and writers will stick to the books in Season 2, or maybe take some license so that the path isn't going to be all that predictable. Especially since this season was created with just the one season in mind by Crave (Canadian HBO). The foreign deals (Oz, UK and USA...) have made a second season even a possibility, despite the fan love. I haven't read the series, but isn't Scott at the end of his career and not the height of it. I thought he said to Kip that he'd made changes in a couple of years, which happened. Winning the Cup now ... he's pretty much run the course in his hockey life. Am I wrong?

DM'z (Don and Michael)

I just watched. Alastair, how you kept so composed is beyond me. I was sobbing. Of course, I watched it alone, so I could be as dramatic as I damn well wanted. Lol This episode, and Connor Storrie deserves all the awards. A brilliant work of art.

Zach: “Oh I don’t like these sweet romantic moments…” Also Zach - proposed at the airport and got us all hooked in his 10 years worth of YouTube :)

Chris Ho

Yes it was made with one season in mind, these two books specifically with hope of a second but no guarantees.

Louise

What did Kip do to you Zach! In the book the Scott and Kip relationship has all happened over a six month period up to this game and they didn't split up. In the show they had to fiddle with the timelines so it's two years later and they have been separated. Zach this IS a Cinderella story, it's a romance, guaranteed HEA 😂 It's called Game Changer for a reason, Scott and Kip walk so Shane and Ilya can run 💗

Louise

And apologies for the multiple comments 😁 it's great watching you watch it. There's so much subtle direction from Jacob Tierney throughout. Spot what's going on with the pressure monitor in the background of the hospital scene and what the number is as Ilya leaves.

Louise

I was dying for the moment you got to the monologue. Emmy-award wining performance right there. Did you spot it was Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata in the background, which was written by him when he was heartbroken in love with someone he couldn’t have. Also did you notice the change in how Shane is hearing him, it changes from it being on the end of the phone to as if he's there. And did you spot the police car going past the end of the tunnel as he admitted his feelings 😁
