"Bring sexiness back!" Fantastic 4 mini review

Comments

WandaVision was truly the last Marvel standout

ZPG

How was F1?

ZPG

It is a good message to spread. Especially now. Just checked out the blurb for Plainsclothes and need to watch it yesteday

ZPG

I'm curious how they endup in the next Avengers movie

ZPG

The CGI has gotten too much. I agree. Its sad watching them film in a green room all the time

ZPG

I can see how you enjoyed F4 more than Superman. I think the movie might be growing on me a bit...

ZPG

Def had its moments. The "Herald" speech is going through social media like wild fire

ZPG

This one and Ant-Man Quantumania did me in. Terrible movies. 😅🤦🏼

Dominik

I would point out that one of the biggest disappointments in the post-Endgame era was Thor: Love and Thunder and that had Chris Hemsworth naked back shots so I'm not sure "sexiness" is the issue. 😂

Jared

This was a big no thank you for me. I actually fell asleep!!

I totally agree with the sentiment that after Endgame the quality very much declined and I also have superhero fatigue. I think WandaVision was the last thing I genuinely enjoyed and is still one of my favorite Marvel things. Just my two cents, haha. I do like this new series. Fun idea. Always great to talk about movies. I had a good time with this one overall. I loved the 60s aesthetic. Also agreed that Vanessa Kirby and Julia Garner were the standouts.

Heh nice to see you two, did you mention superman? I haven’t seen it but love you guys reviews. I have only seen F1. On the side love the colour of the interior of your vehicle. Not sure I will have time to see it at the movies but will watch when it appears on a streaming service. Unless you two said Brad this is a must see. Thanks for the review see you both soon.

My husband is definitely on the same page as Zach with the super hero fatigue train. He got super tired of the interconnected-ness of it all and there has undoubtedly been some mediocre films in the genre as of recent. Personally for me I really enjoyed Fantastic Four. It felt refreshing. It wasn’t tied too deeply to everything and felt more like a standalone work which I appreciated. I’m absolutely obsessed with the production design and the score. Also liked how it had its very central theme of family and focused on the worth of a single child. Cause if we can’t see the value worth protecting in a single life, what are we doing you know? Vanessa Kirby was such a standout on that front with her plea to everyone outside of headquarters. I think this film and Superman did a great job at reminding every one of our collective humanity in a world that has become increasingly more hostile as of late. Kind of a sign of the times but anyways these movies rekindled a little bit of the super hero fatigue for me. Haven’t really enjoyed one these since guardians 3 and Spider-Man nwh. Anyways love movies and movie discussions so it was fun to hear your guys thoughts! As for upcoming movies, would love to hear what you guys think of plainclothes. It comes out sept 19th I believe. saw it in the Sundance film festival and really enjoyed it. Also heard great things about Twinless.

The movies left me with so many questions like where did Galactus and the Silver Surfer end up? What is the history of this 828 Earth? In what ways does its history differ from the main 616 universe in regards to historical events?

Jared

The action/superhero movie phenomenon left me in the dust years ago. I just can't make myself sit through films that are 95%+ CGI with little to no emphasis on acting. I realize I'm in the minority here (to put it mildly), and I'm not at all critical of those who enjoy such films. I have often been told that my favorite movies are the ones that would send most folks into a coma. That being said, I still look forward to more reviews. I have no doubt they will be entertaining, whether or not they inspire me to buy a ticket. Love you guys.

I had seen Superman the week before and although there were some nice bits in Superman, it just felt like a mess with way too many ideas and things crammed into it, and there were sections where I felt so bored/disinterested/annoyed by it that I actually kept looking at my watch and felt I couldn't wait for it to get to the end. I actually enjoyed Fantastic Four more - it wasn't as long, it didn't outstay its welcome, it was more grounded, more coherent, it didn't feel like anything went to waste, and it could just be enjoyed as a standalone movie. I felt the performances were all good, although I felt Pedro Pascal was a bit miscast as Reed Richards (his dialogue was mumbled and he didn't come across as a leader, he is meant to be smarter than Tony Stark/Banner, an astronaut from the 60s who could inspire his team to go into the unknown). I felt like his wife was way more inspiring and more of a leader. The great thing about Vanessa Kirby's performance as The Invisible Woman is she was likeable and modest but also confident and supportive, which was very logical given this was the 60s (before the feminist movement truly empowered women). Galactus and the Surfer were interesting and felt like characters and not just CGI plot devices. BUT having said that, I am very tired of superhero franchises - I agree after Endgame, it was hard to care any more. That was the ultimate orgasmic climax, and I just can't get my boner back for them since lol. I want to get back into watching original cinema and supporting independent film again. Hope you're both doing well. Nice to see you spontaneously on here!

Ian

I agree with you that Sue Richards and the Silver Surfer were the standouts of the movie. Even though the ending was spoiled for me, I still cried when Sue died just say her son and Franklin brought her back to life. 😭

Jared

Reed Richards is definitely more of the uptight serious brain guy as opposed to Tony Stark's laid back goofy brain guy so it didn't come as a surprise to me that Pedro Pascal wasn't able to flex is comedic bone in this role.

Jared

I loved Vanessa Kirby she was perfect in her role definitely a highlight. I thought the film was really fun and different to watch.
