The Poses I use?
Added 2019-08-27 00:32:17 +0000 UTCI recently received a comment that made some fair points about my pinup pose choices, that I'd like to get some broader feedback on.
Most pinup art I see these days use either a classic Contrapposto or S Curve style of posing and a straight-on camera angle... which is great! It's a classic for a reason, after all! Many of the popular pinup artists these days use it in every single drawing they do.
Personally, however, I tend to feel a bit lazy if I just do these sorts of poses... the reason being that I don't feel I am adding anything to the conversation by doing the same thing over and over. So, I try to push the perspective, the camera angle, and the poses in every drawing to be just a bit more unique and different than what you might usually see. I am always trying to draw a pose that's a bit different than one I've done before.
However, choosing uncommon poses and angles is a lot more work for me, as I have to search for references to poses that generally aren't common. It means studying an arm here, a leg there, a hip crease from this photo and a shoulder blade from another photo.
Maybe I am overworking myself for little payoff. Perhaps it's just my artistic brain overthinking the technical side of things... so, I want to use this poll to get your consideration on the topic!
So, here's the question:
Do you like the poses I choose that have extreme camera angles and unique or uncommon posing choices?
or...
Would you prefer a more classic approach, with straight on camera angles and standard standing/kneeling/reclining pinup poses (like you see with most other pinup artists)?
I am not adding a middle-of-the-road option, because it doesn't help me make a decision. ;)
Thanks everyone! It helps a lot!
