August Pinup Sketch #1 - Cave Elf Spear Fishing

Heya everyone!

First, I want to let everyone know why the work for August has been delayed. As some of you know, I've been having trouble with my back over the last 3 months, making it very painful to sit at my desk. This month, it's gotten a bit worse, so I was forced to spend more time away from my desk. Every time I think it's getting better and I sit down to work, I end up aching again and have to take a break. But, the show must go on, and I don't want to miss a month, entirely.

I've made some changes to my workstation to try and further reduce pain (it's lower back related), like getting a new chair and taking regular breaks, but as you can see by the date, it's been a bit slow going. Curses! TI am really stoked for the idea I have had for August, too! But at any rate, I felt I needed to explain. I would have said something sooner, but every day I've been hopeful and ask myself "is this the day I can get back to work?" Only to find it's still rough going. Changing my chair seems to be helping, so I'll keep taking it one day at a time!

Anyways, this month's art set will be with Cave Elf, as she does some spear fishing in some ruins located inside a seaside cavern. But is there something more dangerous in the water besides the tasty fish? Who can say! I've left her fur out of this set, because she's swimming and such, so it wouldn't make sense for her to wear it. XD

Colors coming soon! :D

As usual, the high resolution files will be sent out after pledges have processed, usually on the 5th of next month.

Thanks for your support!

That sounds smart to me! :)

Heh. Yea, I wouldn't go with the crates as a permanent thing. I just know some people try a standing desk and end up hating it so rather than spend the time and money only to find you don't like it it'd be a way to do a temporary test to see if it's even worth pursuing.

DezzieArts

That's good advice! I'll look into it. Like I said, I can't stand for too long in one place, because of my knees (walking is fine), so something like crates won't work. I'd have to put them on and off all the time. XD But yeah, I'll look into the adjustable desk tops. I didn't know that existed!

RoninDude

Also also, I recommend comfy slippers. Or a decent memory foam mat.

DezzieArts

I would suggest seeing if you can temporarily rig up something to see if you like working while standing. Some people use those "milk crates" with some scrap plywood or if you have a lot of books or for mine I use an old PC, a large floating shelf, and some Command adhesive. If you do end up liking it they make adjustable tabletop surfaces that go on your existing desk which are way less expensive than a fancy standing desk.

DezzieArts

Thanks Jaquelidor! Standing desk? I haven't tried one. But I do have bad knees from my time as a logger, so I have to consider that, too. They are expensive, but I may get one of those desks that raises and lowers with controls. That's not something I can do right now, though.

Take care of yourself first and foremost. I'm guessing using a standing desk is of no help?

Hey Louis, I have yet to see a back doctor, but that's because I have a buddy who recently had back surgery who gives me second hand advice from his doc, as well as years of knowing my body. I know what I did, and what's wrong. I injured myself while doing squats on an already sore back, and I pushed the weights a bit too much. So I strained my lower back muscles. On top of that, right after I finished doing the rough set of squats, A family member's dog ran out of the yard to get in the face of a not-so-friendly dog on a walk, and I bolted after it. After a few failed lunges to grab the dog, I felt my back go bad, and still had to try and rescue the dumb mutt from getting into a scrap with the strange dog. After that, I've been dealing with recovery. I am pretty sure I have a minor torn muscle, but it's not severe. I can feel the muscles and they are all in place. It's just that my work agitates the injury, because I sit a lot, and it want's to be straight. I've changed my chair and am working to rest when I can (hence the late posts, this month). I keep hurting it because I still do things around the house that I probably shouldn't (building a fence, moving boxes, etc). So I just gotta let other people do the work, and rest for the next couple of months, and then I will be good as new. Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Louis, I appreciate it!

1) glad to have you back R.D. as for your back. i may have missed the older posts but have you seen a back doctor or a chiropractor? have you tried a masseuse or a inversion table/chair (would be a gamble as its a contraption thats on a see-saw like set up that you step backwards in to on the 'table' strap your ankles in place locking them in. pushing back on the frame so you are hanging upside down being held up by your ankles so your weight is shifted to your head effectively stretching your body out for about 5-15 min before you pull yourself back up. which now you can see why it would be a gamble). i know its none of my business. you dont know me as nothing more than 'that guy who supports me on internet'. just dont like seeing people in pain. now that aside 2)..... so stoked to see my jungle queen making her return.... i kinda feel like 'wait... didnt i make a comment about this last month hoping she would be july's model due to my birthday' which i did comment lol
