$1 LED downlight

In a way I suppose that it's actually easier and cheaper to ship these downlights than it is to ship a light bulb. This is one of those awful built-in ceiling lights where you can't change the bulb, so you have to physically remove the whole fitting from the ceiling and engage in electrical wiring instead.

Thanks Big Clive.

I'd expect one for 12/24V and one for 110/240V, but with an external driver.

Big Clive

Somehow it's apparently both. Not sure.

Looks a similar light. And no voltage choice option when buying? That's weird.

Big Clive

Thanks Big Clive. The no-flicker thing is interesting. I wonder if there is something to the way the LEDs are split 9/3 in the circuit or the combining of the pins in the linear regulator that helps explain that? I found a 220/110v version for $2.01 (free shipping for $10 purchase) https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807664208280.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.27.2e3d2biM2biMvZ&algo_pvid=137c8798-185b-44ff-a705-585c262c17b6&algo_exp_id=137c8798-185b-44ff-a705-585c262c17b6-13&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22order%22%3A%2219%22%2C%22eval%22%3A%221%22%7D&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21USD%216.50%211.50%21%21%2146.87%2110.78%21%402101ef5e17402629846791921e3c3f%2112000042534543747%21sea%21US%21929483542%21X&curPageLogUid=w24WyjCUIG7q&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch%7Cquery_from%3A

Oh - that explains that then. Thanks

Mike Hughes

It is both an adhesive and thermal transfer compound.

Big Clive

I am a little confused- they are using silicone as an adhesive- why not heat transfer compound? Or have I missed the boat somewhere because the Mrs is all for buying silicone cooking stuff, like cup cake moulds that don' melt and silicone utensils that don't conduct heat. Please explain.

Mike Hughes

Don’t you just love those springs…
