so for this episode. again only two tidbits: a bit of a clarification on what a named mage is. they are basically any mage with more than 10 confirmed kills in battle. basically just a way for both allies and enemies to know who the high priority targets are. tanya for example is known as "the devil of the rhine" or "the eleventh goddess", depending on who you ask. also, mirroring real world policies a bit, the allied kingdom, republic, and unified states have been sending soldiers from their militaries to other countries as "independent mercenaries" to fight the empire. it allows them to interfere with the fighting without getting dragged into the war directly. basically it gives them an air of plausible deniability, where they can just claim those soldiers were not part of the military and were acting on their own accord as mercenaries. so far it's been working, but of course they don't really care about their allies. they just want the empire to waste resources in the battle, so if they ever are forced to take up arms the empire's already weakened.
