so about trunks sword; this mostly concerns extended material, aka the old dbz movies, so not sure if you want to read this or not, but here we go: I don't think it was ever truly explained so far where future trunks got his sword. the closest to an idea we have is that in one of the movies one alternate version of trunks was bequeathed a sword by an alien fighter called tapion, who gives it to trunks after the dragon team helps him defeat a monster he was guarding. i think this is the only explanation we ever got for where exactly that sword might have come from, but again that timeline is completely non-canon. a shame really, as i would have liked to see events unfold on that version of earth, as this universe's goku could already go ssj3 long before he ever even met the androids, though admittedly this version died from the heart virus trunks went back to safe goku from if i remember correctly. but yeah, the sword is referenced to have belonged to tapion in some of the games as well, but those are completely non-canon to the manga and the series as well.
