Hang Out and Use Procreate with me! (Part 1)

Hey all! This first *highly* casual installment is an introduction on how I use procreate, including canvas settings, app organization, brush preferences, pressure sensitivity, and some rendering techniques using my favorite texture brushes! This is by no means a comprehensive guide to procreate for beginners, but I do hope it gives procreate newbies a bit of comfort. I've been using it since my senior year of college, and it's seriously improved my workflow and productivity!

Here is the link to the other video on my channel where I render a page from Mushroom Rain with similar techniques. But! I want to do a ton of videos like this for you here on patreon, so please let me know what you'd like coverage on.

Love you guys!

Hi Jamie, thank you for this helpful video! If possible could you talk about your technique of depicting light in a scene?

Manushi (Noo)

I'm sneaking in weeks later just to say I'd love to hear more about blend modes\. I'm also curious how do you decide on colors? You're changing values and shades so smoothly that it looks so precisely thought through! Once again thank you for your work <3

Ola Wie

Yay I'm so happy! <3

I agree, coming back to this video I finally thought about what I’ve been wanting to learn as far as general art knowledge especially in procreate and color theory is something I really struggle with. I would love to know how you pick out color combinations for your character designs as well as just what works well overall for larger pieces.

Braylee

thank you for the video jamie, it was so enjoyable and informative! I was wondering if you could talk more about color theory, specifically how to use value and tone to make contrasts in vegetation and backgrounds. thank you have a great week!

Hi Jamie, wow, thank you for filming this! Ugh, four times is a lot, I know what that feels like, but thanks for sticking it out, this video really helps. You're really good at layering, I think that's the secret sauce. It's the layering of textures on top of one another. Also, The noise brushes are these: https://creativemarket.com/shawnramsey/90213-Subtle-Noise-Brushes at least I'm pretty sure. They are a photoshop brush but you can upload them into procreate. The thing that I'm interested to know about is how your textures change when you are creating say a human being, an object, or a landscape. I've noticed that I shade differently depending on what it is in the drawing. Also, please make videos on how to make backgrounds!! Thank you for all you do <3

so excited to watch this, I’ve always been curious on your process while using procreate. I’m pretty new to procreate so getting as much info as I can to better myself and then it coming from YOU, oh boy how great is that.
