New for $5 Backers: Behind-the-Scenes Videos

Hi all,

We are sharing this first behind-the-scenes video to all Patreon supporters. We have recently received a lot of interest in behind-the-scenes videos. I'm excited to take this task and start giving a better inside look at GN, and I feel like the Patreon backers deserve it -- especially now that you've helped us grow so much. Pre-emptively: sorry, shot this vertically. I don't do cell phone videos, and didn't even think about it. Will get that right next time!

The current challenges to fulfilling this demand are as follows:

- YouTube only really supports up to 1 video per day. We already do that. Going beyond 1 video per day means flooding/spamming the platform and algorithm, and likely reducing our views overall. We have to avoid this challenge.

- There is a physical limit to how many hours are in a week, and I cannot physically work any more than I already do -- but I really want to do these "BTS" videos.

- Andrew, our main video guy, is already very busy with all our other projects, so I don't want to add to his workload.

The Solution:

I am going to shoot these from my cell phone -- inspired a bit by LTT's FP Exclusive videos -- and set goals to: (1) Not detract time from our existing, important content that you all support, (2) not increase workload of my team in a significant way.

To do this, I will be shooting these alone, and will likely do them after the team is done working for the day. We will post these at no known interval, but I am going to target ~2-4 per month, for now.

We will be releasing these to Patreon backers of $5 and up only for at least 1 week early. After that point, we will either: (1) leave the videos permanently unlisted, e.g. you get exclusive content, (2) send some live to the main channel, (3) send some live to the GNSteve side-channel. What we do with the videos after Patreon-only access will depend on if we think they had something worth sending out to the core audience. This first video, for example, will likely remain Patreon-exclusive. If we ever share it publicly, it'll be on the side-channel, and only after a week or more has passed. If we filmed some super cool "behind-the-scenes wind tunnel build log," for example, we'd probably share that publicly at some point -- it just depends.

We will not place ads into these BTS videos.

This post will go public in 7 days, just so everyone knows our plans!

- Steve.

really love the behind the scenes stuff.

Oh & for big cooler testing I think it'd be interesting to see the differences of push/pull/2+fans on air coolers & AIOs. This testing suggests push+pull can make ~20-40%ish difference on radiators (the author notes problems with the testing method/comparison in the article). http://www.xtremerigs.net/2015/02/20/pushpull-radiator-setups-learned-stop-worry-love-fans-less-noise/

I really like the BTS idea & enjoyed the video. Hope to see more in the future(: *I have 140mm slim fans if the community's ever interested in a roundup (Prolimatech USV, Silverstone FW141, Thermaltake TY 14013, just missing a Cryorig I think)

Was not aware of that. Great point. I'll do that.

Thank you, Steve. Great to see how your half lives. Keep up the amazing work.

Thank you Steve; hope you can get some sleep on the holidays :)

One small request Steve: can you next time please post a direct link to the video in the text? Patreon is making everyone log in to click the video that links to YouTube. Posting a direct link allows us to open it directly from our mail.
