Coming up: Noctua 200mm Fans
Added 2017-12-01 14:58:53 +0000 UTCHey all,
We're working on reviewing the Noctua 200mm fans! Separately, we just got a wind tunnel in and working, and should soon be able to do CFM calculations on fans. This will help us in our upcoming fan reviews. The 200mm units, unfortunately, won't fit on the wind tunnel, but we are still doing thermal + LPM (Linear feet per minute) tests on the Noctua 200s, primarily benchmarking them against the Cooler Master 200mm fans from the H500P. Rather than test with an open bench of some sort, we're testing in the H500P Meshify (that we made), as the fans are simply too big to use on anything else that we benchmark.
Other than that, the plan is to launch a HW News video today, then push some GPU reviews. We're still waiting on the AMD drivers to start working properly with AIB partner cards, though. We retested the Strix V64 with 11.13.4 and it is still underperforming versus target. At this point, we may just publish the numbers as is, which shows them all pretty much the same. AMD Adrenalin may fix that issue. We'll see.
Other plans include potentially upgrading my own system (I'm on an FX-8350 garbage PC that was cobbled together with unneeded parts from the lab), and maybe Andrew's rendering rig. The latter is a lot more difficult, as we have RAIDs that would need to be backed-up and relocated.
The fan testing, I think, is the most interesting thing we're doing right now. AFAIK, we should be one of the only YT outlets capable of doing a wind tunnel test for fan reviews, which means more objective data for you all. The wind tunnel is on its way to being functional. It won't be in the 200mm review, but will be used for 120s and 140s.
Anyone have fans they specifically want to see tested?

Definitely need to test the whole range for the Corsair ML fans pretty please!!! Also for SP applications...
2017-12-04 18:23:29 +0000 UTCsounds fantastic. I'm at odds, and was sort of hoping that TR build would be the new render rig, tho understandable to need the parts. We have been hoping for to get, well, 'Anything' better than that FX, even tho My FX is still the primary box for the same resin that the GN render rig cant just be gutter, to much data to migrate easily lock stock and barrel. Oh, and another vote for the Noctua NF-F12 industrialPPC-2000 PWM fans.

2017-12-02 12:30:57 +0000 UTCWe can look into this. Worst case, we can upload one and set it to unlisted, then just link it in the review.

2017-12-02 03:43:10 +0000 UTCWe will be using radiators and meshes for that!

2017-12-02 03:42:34 +0000 UTCAwesome to hear, I'm really looking forward to the fan tests. I'm guessing it would take too much video time to included an audio recording of the fans throughout their RPM range? YouTube channel CoolingTechnique is a great source for this. I've found that real-world sound profiles are more relevant to me than dba (because of things like ticking (sometimes PWM), humming, high pitched whirring, etc.). Kind of like how coil whine can be a PITA for an otherwise silent GPU/PSU I'd also really be interested in how they perform with a radiator in front of them (and mesh fan filter). Each variable adds a lot of testing time though so I understand only so much can be done. Then there are things like fin density x.x to consider Please, if you aren't already planning to, include a graph/chart of airflow vs. RPM. 35 CFM at 600 RPM is more important to me than 50 CFM at 1200 etc. I just ordered some *slim* 140mm fans if you're interested in them. Pretty much all that exist: Prolimatech Ultra Sleek Vortex, Silverstone FW141, Thermalright TY-14013R, possibly Cryorig CR-XTA. I also have a Corsair ML140 which you probably have already. Slim 140mm are niche though & while roundups are always great, I don't know how many people care @ them.
2017-12-02 03:35:50 +0000 UTCIf possible, I'd like to see some tests done with the Noiseblocker NB-eLoop 120 or 140mm fans. I saw a build with them on the SFFPC subreddit, and I'm curious to see if they can live up to the performance claims on their spec sheets.
2017-12-02 03:35:19 +0000 UTCI'll second The Dav Lab's recommendation re: Noctua's 2000 RPM fans (two of which are currently powering my H100i v2).

2017-12-02 00:17:29 +0000 UTCDid you will also able to test static pressure of fans? This is would be gold for liquid cooling :D As fans, I would like to watch Noctua NF-F12 industrialPPC-2000 PWM been tested. Thank you!
2017-12-01 23:55:37 +0000 UTCOoooh yess! Some fans I would really LOVE to see: Arctic Cooling F12 and F14. The F12 is a legend on their Asetek Gen5 AIO. Thermalright FY-14x. Any of the Torpedo blade lineup.

2017-12-01 21:57:03 +0000 UTCThis is great to hear looking forward to the upcoming videos. I don't have a specific model but I'd love to see you compare some of the real cheap fans with the Noctua's. Not cheap fans from BeQuiet or Arctic but some no name brand. I'd like to know how much of a difference there is performance.
