Agreed , not sure whose idea it is but more time to drag queen and their alter ego than a guy making horror host comics and a horror flick is virtue signaling nausea. Hope that it’s out of way and we can get edgier humor and legit horror related content rest if season . If TLDI keeps working it up , it will go the way of these other Woked up art these days . Yep, my first as a new pothead. Watching Cheech and Chong's Next Movie on Tubi listening to Sublime. Only movie I can think of JBB hosting that was pot related was Quiet Cool. Saw that on IFC many years ago. Very clever to have Remar at the beginning of Pineapple Express as a homage. "ILLEGAL!" 😆

I remember first seeing Wizard of Gore in that scene from Juno which ironically references Argento as well. I just got around to Serial Mom on Starz a year ago and laughed myself the hardest with a movie in some time. Last really good role for Kathleen.

We were doing a history of horror type thing in the course, chronologically. So, coming off the back of Psycho in 1960 where the violence was inferred through editing, the professor showed us some of Blood Feast to demonstrate the turn to on-screen violence/gore and the difference between a studio movie at that time vs. independent filmmaking. It was a cool class. I wrote a paper about how Freud's theory of the uncanny can be applied to Alien. Got an A. 🤓

Suspiria never got there since Showtime stopped playing older Fox movies and sharing the new ones with HBO. They played some old ones in the mid to late 90s like Omen. Opera made it to drive in since Orion Classics released it half a decade later.

Looking back at these old clips and realizing how little we got to see of JBB during the movie screenings as opposed to now makes me so grateful for Shudder and The Last Drive-In!

I love the bottle of Jose Cuervo and box of Ritz crackers. It's a party! Blood Feast is so bad it's perfect. I want to see an Airplane-style comedic remake of it. I heard about it back in the 90s watching the HGL episode of The Incredibly Strange Film Show, and saw the scene in Serial Mom, but the first time I saw it in it's entirety was on The Last Drive In. I have a copy of the script among my treasures.

Back when I was in film school, when I was taking a horror genre class, the professor had us watch the opening scene of Blood Feast. So let it be known that Herschell Gordon Lewis has made it into the hallowed halls of academia. Additionally, so did the opening scene of Suspiria.
