In a world of horrible bosses, I had one of the absolute best ever. Shortly after starting work for him, I went to a meeting and ended up stating something really stupid. When I realized it could come back on him, I went to tell him what transpired. He just kind of grinned and said if that's the worst thing you ever do then you have it made. Don't worry about it. He continued to be the most understanding and motivational manager I ever reported to. I worked for him on four different levels over 12 years and in retirement he is still a good friend.
