I didn't have a lot of friends when I was younger and used to think there was something "wrong" with me that people could sense and didn't like - basically my secret love of and identification with cartoon animals. Boy did that ever change when I discovered furry fandom and acquired a circle of accepting friends every bit as wonderfully "weird" as I was! (It wasn't anything I "did" other than being lucky enough to discover a subculture I felt totally at home in.)

I think the secret is to not thinking the audience is judging you, but they see you as the authority they're (if you're on a stage) literally loooking up to. (In my case I'm a big show-off and love talking to people in general.)

I was very nervous about public speaking. I took on a job that required a certain amount, so I just did it, and soon got over (most) of my nervousness.
