For the sake of listing something few have read, Walter Johnston wrote a series of Maxwell Smart novels in the 60s. They were hilarious. I still quote them after almost 60 years

J.E. Melton

A Douglass Adams book, but not one of the ones you're thinking of: Long, Dark Teatime of the Soul, the second Dirk Gently book. Tis a surrealist riot, IMHO.

Freezer

Anything in Guy Gilpatric's Glencannon series: https://www.fantasticfiction.com/g/guy-gilpatric/colin-glencannon/

Jon Benson

Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys. A must-read for both sexes. And smizmars too.

was there ever a funny novel;? hmmmmmmmm i never searched one out, there were some amusing SF books such as ROBOTS TELL NO TAILS By Henry Kuttner and THE STAINLESS STEEL RAT Series by Harry Harrison was funny. Even Asimov penned a few funny short stories.
