My Cage "Classic" 02/20/2010

Mel and I have a new project we're excited about...so, start the countdown until a similar project gets announced that will derail ours. :D

From my dog dying the night we signed the "My Cage" contracts, to our editor drowning a month before our debut, to most recently...the "Cute Force' fiasco, it's been a long, awful ride! :D You guys have been one of the few upsides to the swath of death and destruction that has been my writing career.

When was a time you had either such unbelievably bad luck or good luck that you, well, couldn't believe it?

Just last year. Finally getting my finances together. They my car is wrecked beyond repair by a hit-and-run driver. What I thought was Uninsured Motorist coverage on my insurance was actually just state minimum coverage for ME hitting SOMEONE ELSE. So no insurance coverage. And when my bank/lease holder finds out about this, they declare me in breach of contract and I now owe them the full amount outstanding. And then they drained my bank account to cover that sudden debt.

In the 80s I was trying to move from Brooklyn into Manhattan. I checked out a really nice apartment - the building was a bit funky but the apartment was large, the price was right and the neighborhood was great. By the time I got back to the landlady someone else had grabbed the place. I was incredibly furious at myself...then two weeks later she called me: "Mr Strike, are you still looking for an apartment?" Forty years later I'm still here - wasn't my original plan, but thanx to rent stabilization and a NYC rent subsidy, I'm paying like a third of what most people in the building (and probably in most of NYC) are spending on rent. If I can be all new age-y here for a moment, looking forward to hearing about your new project and hope you hit a home run with it...but don't forget YOU are the achievement and we love you for what you share with us - which is yourself.

I'm truly sorry for all these awful things that happened to you and Mel.

Unbelievably good luck: I found the perfect woman for me and she asked me to marry her. Unbelievably bad luck: so, it started when I married this woman...
