My Cage "Classic" 09/16/2009

I don't really like this one. When you write comic strips you have to have the Sunday ones in weeks earlier than the daily ones. I misjudged this and mentioned Rex and Violet's baby earlier than I meant to and did this to cover it. Once it ran, I realized no on noticed or cared. :D

Originally run Sept 16th 2009.

Cool. (The B&W part, not the horrible part.)

I'll try and post examples of B&W My Cage and when KFS did it for the first month. It was horrible. :(

My Cage

I've often wondered who does the actual coloring. Stuff on the web can have the same strip, but on different sites, e.g. Gocomics or Arcamax, the coloring might be different. Macanudo, for another, is in color all week on both Arca and King, but in color on Sundays only on King. (The b+w version really suffers as half the strip gets washed out.) And with printed strip, the issues with color end up landing on whoever the printer is, and what actual color options they have available. AND, if they can even get the colors to match up with the line drawings. Anyway, where I was going with this is that Rex's color being black is a lot harder to screw up than the navy blue would have been. (I went back and checked, and Rex definitely is paler during that span. It runs from MyCageReturns_0212--0225. ((This span also contains the arc about Norm's dad's death and funeral.)) And he clearly goes back to black at the end of the 0225 strip. ) (Also, only just noticed this, in the first 3-4 panels of 0225 the lamp(light) is shining on Rex, but after Violet slaps him, even though his color comes back, the lamp light isn't shining on him anymore.)

Huh, I never noticed that. I'll have to check it out. Originally, KFS wanted Rex to be Navy Blue. I never asked Mel what happened with that.

My Cage

Speaking of not noticing, there was a strip where Rex's facade cracks and falls away ("What in the comments section was that??"), and he becomes a paler version of himself. Anyway, what I didn't notice until the most recent read, is that he STAYED that way in the strip until a week or two later when he's confessing his weakness to Violet and she smacks him one. Then his color returns and he's his old confident/boorish self.

This is really funny!!
