A great article and a great discussion as ever, thanks lads. Even watching from abroad I get sick thinking about an even slightly competent 2nd Trump administration

My partner was conservative in 2020 but you guys being so “no duh logic” has helped him switch sides and now legitimately when I turn on Cog-Dis he says the intro with ya. Thank you so much 💜💜💜

2024-09-05 23:55:49 +0000 UTCI really liked this discussion; it's important to shine a light on this. There's a great book that I read recently called "The Reactionary Mind" by Corey Robin, and it's absolutely essential reading (IMO) for understanding conservatism. IDK if Tom and Cecil read these comments (no shade), but I think it'd be a great subject for a deep-dive episode. Here's a short interview article that hits on some highlights: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/3/8/18250087/the-reactionary-mind-trump-conservatism-corey-robin

Still, it doesn't make them less confident, it solidifies their "our 'god is real' commitment. Both extreme political views and religion encourage the 'we are all in this together everyone else is wrong' mentality
