2024-05-05 22:14:54 +0000 UTCAs someone who reads a ton of history books, but isn’t a historian. You can see how the loss in WWI and the Treaty of Versailles set up a path for Hitler. This essentially destroyed the German economy which led to hyperinflation and massive unemployment which caused the extremists on both sides to rise. So, Hitler or a Communists government was a definite possibility. The rise of Trump and the extreme far right doesn’t make a lot of sense. The only think I can come up with is this is the end result of the civil rights movement, which led to Reagan and then the election of Obama galvanized the bigoted right to stand behind Trump because he was the only one who had the balls to be an open bigot, and this is what they’ve been waiting for since the 1960s.
