Thanks for your questions, emails, postcards, candygrams, and landsharks.
As to funeral wear, I think it depends on the person/family and how they feel the deceased would want to be remembered. If they left instructions for a simple funeral without any fuss, or just wanted it to take the form of a wake, where everyone would be celebrating their life and who they were, then a suit might not be the best way to dress.

Re: funeral attire.
Traditionally, you guys are spot on for wearing a full suit and tie to a funeral. But at the same time, I don't have the budget or closet real estate for an article of clothing that I'm only going to use maybe once every for or five years (I'm still in my mid thirties).
Last funeral I went to, the "dress code" (such that it was) was "wear something nice." Albeit this was in Alabama in August, the "vibe" was to come with what you had to remember and celebrate the deceased.
We were all in a bad place then and judging each other because some of us didn't spend as much money on one piece of clothing just didn't feel right.

I live in rural northern Nevada and a good portion of the community are ranchers and farmers. Your "good" pair of jeans are what folks wear to funerals, weddings, and church services, women included. Even the grooms often wear jeans, even if the bride is in $5k dress. We don't have a suit shop, but we sure as shit have a (cowboy) hat maker's shop.

There's a YouTube video about splashback in slow motion. I think Smarter Every Day made it, but it's been years since I watched it.

Eastern or Western, WA? I imagine suits are probably a little more common on the eastside of the state. I grew up in Redmond, and I can count the number of times I wore a suit on 1 hand, usually it was events with my wealthy, sorta snobby family members.

Yeah, I grew up in the more rural parts of the PNW and suits were for the pall bearers or immediate family at funerals. Jeans were fine as long as they were clean and not full of holes. I default to a dress for funerals because it's easy and comfy

Shit is different in the Midwest, I have been to probably 12-15 funerals in the last 20 years and literally nobody wore a suit. Seattle and the Pacific Northwest just doesn't roll that way.

Re suits and funerals- when my uncle passed away in early 2017 the funeral was held in his tiny rural hometown… think farmers. I made sure my kids and I were dressed ‘funeral appropriate’ as were the rest of our family.
One of his best friends stood up to talk during the service and first thing he said was ‘I’m happy to see so many of us in jeans; T once said the only reason to wear a suit in church was if you were getting married… since he did that once and it went badly, he never wore a suit again.’
So while I broadly agree with y’all re funeral attire, turns out there are a few times and funeral locations jeans are okay.
Side note- it was overall an odd funeral… I dug the grave myself since he was cremated, and buried him in a shiny black Craftsman toolbox. We also played both Pink Floyd & Three Dog Night during the service, to the visible horror of the pastor.
Thankfully he didn’t see us sneak a bottle of Bud Light into the toolbox before I locked it.

For the paywall thing, when I was a student my university email got me access to a decent amount of journals, and my sister who's an occupational therapist would use it just so she could access medical research for her job.

The Atomic Bomb is a very effective weapon. Yes, there were many civilians who were considered "Collateral Damage" at Nagasaki and Hiroshima, but the war ended sooner, so there was less suffering in the long run. We are at war, believe or not, and if I can hurt the enemy with a certain weapon, I will use it. Collateral Damage is sad, but it's better to have your feelings hurt than to be dragged away to a concentration camp. At this point, i don't think I'm being very hyperbolic.

Too funny. Working my way thru the Citation Needed back catalog and am currently in the time period when you had just released TGUTOBS where the guy congratulate, then mock, then yell.at you for not including them in the book :)
