Importance of Character Portraits

Greetings, one and all!
I invested a significant amount of time and effort into developing a system of paperdoll character portraits for DarkRPG; a system which displays the gradual undressing of a character in the sex dialogue. And this system turned out really cool! However, there's a problem.
Once I finished implementing this system, I realized it's so darn time-consuming to create a paperdoll like this--even for just one character--that it places severe limitations on how many can be produced and how they can be utilized in the game. So much so, that I'm considering dropping these paperdolls altogether.
Otherwise, I might have to drop other systems from the game that could be of greater value in the long run (such as randomized npc generation, companion customization, and being able to have sex with any character).
So, I'm curious to know how important these kind of character portraits are to you as a player of text-based games. Feel free to leave further details about your opinions in the comments below.
