2023-09-10 00:36:27 +0000 UTCI had to look Tiger Lilly up. The dad? Ok. Fair enough. But what was wrong with Tiger Lily? Understand, I haven’t seen this cartoon since I was like 5. And don’t remember any of it. But just looking at the drawings that came up? I only see how the dad could kind of be taken as ok… They were being kind of a dick in the portrayal of the dad. And, I say kinda. It is a cartoon. And plenty of cartoons are drawn absurdly. But I do acknowledge there were plenty of racial jabs taken at people in the early days of animation like this. So, I’m sincerely asking if someone could expand a bit?

2023-08-14 22:15:21 +0000 UTCI met an American family in Brussels on Saturday and we got onto the subject of politics (of course). The dad voted Trump in 2020, and the mum voted Biden. When I asked why he voted Trump, and I explicitly asked what he was hoping to achieve by it, he had a very hard time trying to give an answer and fell back on "my family has always voted Republican". But his discomfort made me believe that he had reasons that he understood to be morally questionable, and I think that that's representative. He was seemed like a really nice guy with a loving family but knowing he voted Trump was like he'd announced that he kicks puppies.
