2022-10-21 21:30:53 +0000 UTCI hope this doesn't come off as too mean, but hopefully it's appreciated considering the tone Tom and Cecil bring to their shows.. I've always been tempted to read "White Fragility" as I want to be a an English Lit professor someday and I think it would be helpful to understand how *older white people* understand race. As a 20-something white person my friends of color would fucking roast me if I was caught reading this book. As another person said above, marginalized people should always be at the center of these discussions. For instance, as a neurodivergent trans woman, I have valued books written by neurotypical (not mentally disabled) and cisgender authors on my identities.. But I would never hand one of those books over to someone whose not in said communities until I really knew they had the basics down and were capable of critiquing those neurotypical/cisgender authors if needed. Skeptics/Atheists have a really big problem admitting the fact that, yes, anyone can follow a rational scientific approach, but on these topics, it is so often only the people in these marginalized communities that can understand the weight and nuance of these topics.
