Book Club October - Boys Will Be Boys

Here is the audio for the book club for the month of October.

Even if you do not read or listen to this book - we think that the discussion is worthwhile.

We will start a new book for November so watch for the poll.

Here  is the link I mention in the discussion: Gender Bias Without Borders - Geena Davis Institute.

Thank you patrons!

Following the link, I am reminded of the book Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men. (A potential book for the Book Club.) A few examples: Crash test dummies being male with a male "child" being used for a female. Women are more likely to be injured in an accident than men and more likely to die as a result of ill-fitted safety-belts. This is very important because women do so much to contribute to the invisible GDP (unpaid work). Men will have to pay for those services when their wives die in an accident (sarcasm). Men have more free time than women. Some drugs for pregnant women aren't even tested on pregnant women (hormones are too confounding for science), and sometimes not even tested on women at all. Imagine taking an FDA approved drug and actually being the test subject (Thalidomide anyone?). The subjects covered in the book aren't limited to the first world and the West.

I'd love it if you guys interviewed Dave futrelle on the show sometime. He's a blogger who runs the site We Hunted the Mammoth and curates all the news on the manosphere.

What a thought-provoking conversation that was. I'm super glad to have listened to it. Not gonna lie, I had the "Boys will be boys" song from Dua Lipa playing in my mind the whole time. Not only because of the title, but because systemic sexism and toxic masculinity are the themes of the song.
