Well, that's definitely one ultra shitty behavior of Norm's... let people wear shirts without gatekeeping! Maybe recommend some favorites if talking to them reveals that they aren't actually familiar with the shirt's subject, but do it in a friendly, inviting way. ...also Jeff's hypotheticals are hilarious.

My other guesses would be Ambrose Bierce and H.P. Lovecraft. Maybe Bram Stoker. (Anacondabrose Bierce, HP Lovecrab & B. Ram Stoker?) (An even better question would be, what were/are your literary influence?)
