Sketches - Norm's design progression
Added 2016-03-31 04:17:33 +0000 UTCHere are some classic sketches of Norm. Definitely one of the hardest characters to design. Our old editor wanted Norm to look kind of "anime/manga". Even thought the editor did his research, I still fought with him, hahaha, explaining that the Japanese make their comic strips no different than in America. Except for the horizontal/vertical orientation....and reading left to right....
anyway (that can be debatable...)
The editor wanted Norm to have spiky hair and I wanted Norm to be bald. The result....Norm's strange-unique hair style.
Initially, the large eyes made Norm look too child-like, so eventually I changed the shape of the head and ultimately the eyes.
In the end, only the female characters retained some anime influence in their design, but even now, I think Bridget is the only one.
My favorite - the little platypus in the water. ;)
