Stories covered in episode:
American Horror Story: Pat Robertson Interviews Donald J. Trump
President Trump's offer for the American people
The problem with 'da Coach' citing the quote about the three stages of 'truth' (laugh/fight/accept), is that it requires that the truth in question be actually true.
But it reminds me a lot of the "Galileo Gambit". And if he's gonna name drop Sagan, I'll return that with Sagan's rebuttal to the Galileo Gambit:
"The fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown."

My point is if you listen to God Awful Movies Eli frequently speaks out against the the stigma associated with mental illness and the mischaracterization of people with mental disorders for the purposes of entertainment and misinformation. He did the exact same thing to combat veterans many of whom suffer or have suffered from PTSD a mental illness. I agree Eli doesn't hate veterans that this was born out of thoughtlessness and impulsivity. I wanted to bring attention to that fact.

I can't imagine he was being literal about stuff like "easiest job ever animals can do it". It felt like poorly-executed comedic rhetoric. It's not like we thought Tom was serious about seal team 6 being a bunch of pussies.

I do agree that in the middle of that big rant against that idiotic letter he went over board in generalizations. However, I think he walked it back several times afterwords (at least in the extended interview), and I just think that letter really got to him.

I disagree on how Eli presented this issue. I agree with Eli on trans views however I do not understand why he had to belittle combat veterans and their experiences in war and transitioning home to get his point across about the struggle of trans people. I agree the one armed letter writer deserved what he got on the show, However belittling the experience of veterans and mocking how difficult it is to integrate their experiences as hypocritical. Trans people have it hard in our society you don't do anything to change that by devaluing the experiences or pain of another group. I will admit this hit close to home for me because I'm both a psychologist and a combat veteran, and I've seen and experienced the scars combat leaves.
